Video Game Movie Update [01:30 pm]
A few details have surfaced about various video game-based film adaptations currently in the works, and most of it is somewhat odd. First off, you really can't have video game movie news without Uwe Boll, so here's an extraordinarily casual email interview with him done by Creature Corner. A few excerpts:
In Bloodrayne, you've got your highest-profiled cast to date. How did you get all these great actors interested? they loved the script
What was it like working with Meat Loaf? he had a lot of fun with all the prostitudes
Do you ever want to do an original movie? (ie, not a video game adaptation) i do SEED, a horror movie
Do you anticipate the change in German tax law next year to effect your ability to continue to get films financed? the next three are financed
Regarding his upcoming projects, Dr. Boll confirmed that he is currently writing the script to the Postal movie and that Gary Coleman will appear in the film, reprising his babe-carrying role from Postal 2. He noted that Far Cry is fully financed and he is hoping for The Rock or Jason Stham (Statham) to play the lead. He also hopes to get the directing rights to the upcoming Hitman adaptation, which is currently set to star Vin Diesel. However, IMDb currently lists the film as being written and directed by Skip Woods, whose only prior projects are writing Swordfish and writing/directing Thursday.
It also seems that Paul W.S. Anderson will be writing and directing the third Resident Evil film. Anderson previously directed Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, and Aliens vs. Predator and wrote Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and Aliens vs. Predator. The next RE flick will be entitled Resident Evil: Afterlife, and will apparently include the game series' Leon Kennedy and Albert Wesker. Anderson will also write and direct the upcoming Castlevania film, though no new details are available.
From the same production company as Castlevania come a couple other game adaptations. We've got Tekken, which is being directed by Mr. 3000 director Charles Stone III and written by Michael Colleary and Mike Werb, who collaborated on Face/Off and Tomb Raider.
However, for sheer lunacy, nothing beats the mention of a Pac-Man film. As if it even makes any difference, the writers are listed as Hal Haberman and Gil Kenan, who are apparently polishing up the final screenplay. What?
