Personally my point was not that the word was offensive. It just seemed a bit strange to let someone post suggesting people call him something if they wanted to, and then have discussions about warning people who actually followed the suggestion.Mojo wrote:I think people should get a grip on the reality of life and accept that sometimes they see things they don't like. I also feel that the mods should stop protecting these people, and if any mod is so easily offended they should not be modding. I don't believe in flame fests and over swearing but this is going to far, actually removing already filtered words is ridiculous.
Bring back liberal modding and throw out the fluffies!!!!!!!!!!
If your going to censor stars then at least remove the filter!!
The importance of being earnest... er honest
Satyn, I did "think for one minute why he did it.", in fact I took a bit longer than a minute since I didn't like the answer I was coming to after the first minute. I think that the best way I can describe why *I* think he did it is that he was "glory hunting".
glory hunting? mmmm lets see ... getting flamed for posting something from an internal board on a public one is glory hunting? I think not.
Like i said to Taki ... the once that stick their heads out get it kicked off. Its always been like that.

If someone said to you "blow me", does that mean you'd just go right ahead and do it?Kallima wrote:Personally my point was not that the word was offensive. Hardly the same thing.Xest wrote:If someone said to you "blow me", does that mean you'd just go right ahead and do it?
If someone posts on a forum an invitation to call him something, then you can bet someone will do it. My personal opinion is its more consistent to object to both or object to neither. Me, I would go for objecting to neither.
It's exactly the same thing, the point is there's a difference between taking something literally and not. It's probably harder for those who don't speak English as their primary language for sure but it still doesn't take a genius to understand the logic surrounding not taking it literally. Also sure, someone will take the invitation but the majority of people will also realise it's not intended to be taken literally even if they do so. As here Ovi certainly understood the intention and I've no doubt Mojo did tooKallima wrote:Hardly the same thing.

The problem is that there used to be a usergroup that would enable the censorship function, but with the upgrade it doesn't work anymore. Originally, only posts by people in the group would be censored and also any post they look at would be censored.Mojo wrote:Whats the point having a filter?
Or are people offended by stars? or the implication of swearing? aswell as the words themselves? or is it just me who see's **
Too much do-gooder and whiner types in these here parts of late

If someone posts on a forum an instruction to call them a random rude word then someone will do it. Of course they shouldn't take the instruction literally, but they will say it when they probably wouldn't have done if it hadn't been suggested to themXest wrote:It's exactly the same thing, the point is there's a difference between taking something literally and not. Yes they are to blame for doing it, but someone telling them to do it isn't a bright move either.
I wouldn't recommend going up to people and saying hit me. Someone might take it literally and do it. Legally speaking the fact you told them to would probably be a good defence in court. The law has a bad habit of taking what you say very literally.
Interesting though it is discussing philosophy with you, I'm afraid I won't be able to continue the debate after today. So long and thanks for all the fish.

There is a world of difference between Takit's post and Keriwen's.
Firstly, Takit started off in a position of more respect in the community.
Secondly, on the public forums at least, Takit didn't directly quote any individual.
Thirdly, even when he did on the secret forum he changed the names to protect the gui... (MODS: Need strikeout font imo!!) innocent.
Fourthly, what takit posted had some new information in it, or at least it was about a topic not discussed recently.
I found Takit's tone wasn't to *my* liking, but the content itself I personally didn't have a problem with. Keriwen's post added nothing we didn't already know and, after Takit's thread, was clearly going to cause as much grief in the community as it would to goa.
He has clearly proved in the language used in his messages to goa that he is only interested in confrontation, and I stil stand by the fact that he felt he would get glory by being the "whistle blower" on goa, just a pity he had nothing worth blowing the whistle for!
If sticking you head out gets it kicked off, then first you really ought to put some effort into making sure you have something worth being kicked for!
I am not against Whistle Blowing per se, BUT it really should have a point.
In this case, I know I said it once but it is the thing that really annoyed me most, this thread was only ever going to cause grief in the very community he claims to be trying to protect!
