Hacking - Why do people do it

Well here i go anyway:
I started out on Alb Exc as i have done for 4 years, i started in Cyprus when the game first came out, i got to know Encyptor and we exchanged msn addresses for MSN Messenger and talked abit, then when i started up my guild again Dark Sentry i invited Mythikal to come along, he then played Mid Pry on a Bonedancer, he deleted his characters and joined the guild.
We talked alot more and soon i lent him the password to my account so he could use a druid of mine, he then said that he wanted to buy the account off of me i said sure and said £40 and a Catacombs CD Key he said sure but i told him that the account would still be mine ( ie i wouldnt give him the Subscription Password until he made the final payment) so i now have the Catacombs CD Key and register it with an account of mine.
I log off because im tired and during the night takes all the items off of my scout as well as all the gold on my Mercenary about 3plat and 750g i know this because he has tried to transfer it on Freddyshouse on the trade forums.
So i wake up with no gold on my mercenary and no armour or weapons on my scout, so i go on his account VIA THE ACCOUNT DETAILS HE HAS GIVEN ME OVER MSN MESSENGER and grab what i can from his account to safeguard myself from him stealing my items.
He logs back on and starts shouting an screaming ( in game of course ) that i have stolen his stuff etc calling me a hacker and the like, although he gave me the details and i gave him my account details, i know i gave him mine and he gave me his so there is NO HACKING involved what so ever.
I then tell him that i will give his stuff back which i have now done ( 28/04/05, 23:00ish GMT) on hib prydwen. so now i owe him a Catacombs CD Key for the one i have used and he owes me the plat and the scout items, which is only fair i guess that way we all end up again at square one with nothing gained and nothing lost apart from him who is 3plat 750g better off and some nice scout gear... But then again its just game.

4th i'm now the one, with a guild
5rd u sold the account in ebay 2days after knowing that i had given you a payment, and you did this all b4 we spoke again
6th, u only have me 9item from the 20odd there where.
