I've never seen any info about DAoC in the UK, but then I've never that I can remember seen any other MMORPG advertised outside computer mags and websites.

I think DAoC has an uphill problem with its age. Regardless of the pretty amzing job Mythic have done to preserve its longevity, the gaming community still knows how old it is and still sees it as an old title.

Maybe it's time for some kind of amazing free play deal for DAoC. Those things seem to pull in the players. If it was timed to coincide with the release of Darkness Rising, and encompassed returning players, it might bring enough activity that everyone would want to play again.

I reckon you just have to break the back of these things. People leave a dying game but join a reviving one. You just have to create the right perception in the short term to get things on track.

I have to agree with Cryn to a certain extent. DAoC is old! It now seems as though it came out of the real Dark Ages, over 1,000 years ago!

Mythic has done its best to prolong DAoC's life, by introducing new expansions and different elements to the game, but they only breathe so much life into the game. Also, DAoC is not the game it was 3-4 years ago. Back then it was fresh, uncomplicated and addictive. So, even though the expansions have kept the game alive, they've also changed it into something quite different.

Nowadays, a lot of players get bored and playing becomes more of a chore than a pleasure. Not every player is like that, of course, but from what players have said in game, that's the impression I sometimes get.

I think what Mythic should do is abandon DAoC... perhaps keeping a few servers open for staunch supporters of the game. Mythic could then concentrate on developing a new mmorpg entirely... perhaps something linked to DAoC, but not DAoC, if you see what I mean. That way, old DAoC players would be interested and more than likely want to play it. New players would be drawn afresh.

But, back to the thread... I think with dwindling numbers, we may have to face drastic action in the future... possibly fewer servers and consolidation of existing ones. I think the future of the game for English players is on the US servers. I think it's inevitable that the European English servers will be taken over to the US servers. If that's the scenario, then the sooner it happens the better!

Then GOA can streamline their servers just to non-English players.

The English servers (especially Prydwen) have never matched the number of players that we find on the German and French servers. It's logical to assume, therefore, that the English servers would be the first to close down if player numbers were not maintained. Moving to the US servers would prevent this from happening for a long time.

If you base that assumption on numbers, Deira, Cumbria and Carnac would be the first ones to close down.
