I think it's a bad thing to blame & ban computer games for their violent influence when the same problem begins much earlier with kiddies cartoons on TV.
But at least they're trying to do something to improve & protect their society, even if it's not necessarily the way I would like to see them go about it.
The question we should maybe be asking ourselves is:- Why do such a large proportion of computer games contain such a huge amount of blatant & senseless violence?
id say they contain violence, so that if we wnted to experience it, we wouldnt actually hurt anyone, physically anyway, they may feel demoralised by the fact they lost, but thats it. games are unrealistic at the end of the day, if the games were based on realife, u may as well just live ur life

If you go back 5 or 10 years & look at the computer games which were around then ...
OK sure there were still a very few games with explicit violence, but nothing like as many or as explicit as nowadays. I expect exeryone would laugh if they released Descent nowadays, but a few years ago it was the shooter hit! Doom was the only game of the time which I can remember getting slammed for the killing-human-lookalikes thingy.
What changed so radically in the meantime?

The ever increasing need to wind up religious prudes in America by filling games with yet more bloodshed and anti-christ material :p ?

Yeah tbh, it's not like games are designed to be more violent, it's just that graphics and other technology has improved, asking why a monster can be blown into a thousand chunky peices of flesh now when they couldn't before is merely a case of "because they can now". It's not that they didn't want to before, Doom is 13 years old and had heads skewered on spikes, limbs strewn about the floors, impaled people wriggling about still alive with a poll stuck up through them. Quake 2 which is around 8 years old had captured marines being tortured and Quake 4 which is around a year or two old now had the same types of things. I don't really see any change in violence throughout the years other than increased graphics which make violent sections of games appear more realistic, but it'd be pretty stupid to suggest we should have all these ultrarealistic looking games buy keeping any gore looking extremely fake, frankly it would make games stupid.

If you've ever seen films like Hostel and the Saw series you'll know that there is far more brutal, far more realistic looking violence in films with far more sick ideas behind them than there is in any computer game, yet somehow films have shaken off the idea that watching violent films make people violent.

The fact is it's just typical fear of the unknown, the same type of fear that breeds other such horrible human traits such as race hate - i.e. we don't understand their kind so we'll just blame them.
