people these days are becoming far too absorbed in the nanny state culture... eat this dont eat that, watch this dont watch that... there is worse shown on the daily news programmes on television that we subject ourselves and our children to than what we see from day to day here on this community forum.

Exposure to a certain amount of something condtitions us and proper education is essential, education starts with the parents and if those parents arent concerned enough to find out what their kids are up to or what sites they visit and the suitability of such sites for consumption then the community cannot be held entirely accountable. Simply seeing something disgusting or violent or even sexual is not enough to say that it is wrong... people have to have the education to resolve to make their own mind up about the right/wrong ness of the material.

How often in the past 4 years have we seen the bloodied and cleaved, burned, dismembered bodies of children and adults alike beamed into our homes by the media on what is after all a news channel? Is it wrong for them to share those images of horror with the public at large or is it the responsibility of those viewing to react how they see fit? I put it to all that it is the latter which is in my opinion the right answer. While it is also important to note that once seen, something cannot be unseen and the damage is done by that stage.

People also can only make that judgement if they have been exposed to something... it is not possible to make a real judgement without exposure... people can however take the advice of those who have been exposed to such material and are well informed. Show me the regulatory body that can and will proport to be able to regulate content on the web and I'll show you a statement from the main regulatory body who have categorically gone on record stating that it is impossible to regulate the web in its entirety.

An old discussion I know but one that seems to appear each year round about the time that someone takes offense at something someone else posts.

case and point...

the video execution of the hostage in Iraq... was hosted on the web for in excess of 3 days before the powers that be were able to find it and take it down.

You could try VN Boards, they have an active censorship policy for "offensive" material. Their policy has caused their forums to be so much more friendly and full of sensible and reasoned discussion as a result don't you agree?

ok
forgive me if im wrong but using the slang form of the female genetalia on an open forum in regards to food IS slightly ott.
There is no discussion re this :p
I hope we dont loose anyone over this but seriously - peeps not understanding why this wasnt the best comment is very confuzzling.

Obviously it wasnt TOO bad as crom would have been warned. As it was he was edited.
so nothing bad really >.<

And i dont think he ment it in badness to people who dislike seeing that sort of stuff. Ive seen corser stuff than that and i still didnt want to read it in general.

Thats the difficulty with being a mod... you have to see all the bad stuff... we have a porn filter in place at my work and as the IT Manager I have to go to the filter to pull files that are legitimate pictures of stuff for campaigns... the issue is that sometimes people say its legit and we have to verify it... so I have to see some stuff I wouldnt want to see... but thats what my position involves... I may not like it but it has to be done. ;) (sometimes though you do see some interesting sights... some even make your eyes water.)
