The same problem exists on Merlin/Alb really, one of our prominent raid leaders, Soldor used to just build a strong PuG full of a good players, ask some other fgs to cut off inc and then just go and hit the keep with 1fg, setup a BG before hand and it wouldn't be long before others started arriving to help out.

It's probably harder to build a zerg and go and attack a keep than it is to attack a keep/tower and let the zerg build around you tbh.

Depending on the time of day you don't even need fg's roaming, me and a friend often duo minstrel/sorc and farm stragglers, if a fg came just lead them to the keep and kill them with the support of the 1/2fg at keep. I guess the key is getting good players that prefer not to zerg to realise that they can participate without zerging by picking off inc. be it with a strong duo (eld/bard is easily as good if not better than sorc/minstrel) or a fg. If we're playing stealthers at a keep we just infil/minstrel or infil/infil duo and kill people inside and keep oil clear etc. Hell we've even ninja'd keeps in the past with infil/minstrel groups - vamp/ns/hero could do it just as well, get a warlord hero into a keep with a ram on inner door whilst everyone else hits outter door.

My point is more that you don't need a massive zerg, you don't need opted groups, you need speed, you need the best rams you can, you need warlords and you need tactics. Honestly 2fg who know how to take a keep fast is often worth far more than a zerg that messes around for ages and are mostly afk.

One final note is that if you really are better at defending than attacking then stick to it, you can attack with defence as Hib, just go to a bridge tower next to a keep, put trebs on the top floor and just treb the keep from the bridge all whilst you have bainshees/PBAE/shrooms decimating anything that even tries to come up the stairs. Once there's a hole try and come down, maybe coordinate with a bomb group to kill any Albs/Mids at the bottom of the bridge trying to get up then rush the keep, setup inside with a ton of shrooms, bainshees, PBAE etc. again and it should be an easy win.

The only thing that bothered me on the RR attempt was people that were so RP horny that you just have to move forward and try to hit the albs!

For gods sake if we set up camp somewhere (or taking a tower) stay out of range from the albs, they just stood there killing a few hibs at a time that was stupid enough to stick out their faces, slowly dimishing the strength of our BG as a whole
(rez sick, no buffs, less pow for healers etc etc)

Now next time I hope people can just forget about RP ONE night and concentrate on the goal at hand. With a proper shroomfield and fops and spread out hibs, there should be no way we could get rushed by albs and killed very easily.

People just need to follow the instructions on BG more carefully and being less "selfish", its a BG for the entire realm. Its prolly better to not show up at all if you dont plan to follow it exactly.

Thats actually the biggest problem there is - the people who just can't stay with the rest but they just have to run off as soon as a single alb appear. It's like a wall with bricks, its strong when every brick is in place - but as soon as you start to remove a couple of breaks it all breaks down.

On Topic, what can we do to improve this?

We must keep trying, even if its hard, since we cant outnumber them we need to outlive them. I mean we have to be stubborn and not give up.

The more BGs we form the more training we get and soon people will learn.

Atleast I hope so. We should for one have a BG up every night in Emain/NF whatever, so we can communicate and make grps easier all the time.

Also helps if any PUG fg's treb towers at random every now and then, to maybe make an opening for zerg BG later or something :)

Yeh, agree we need to do more. Forgive me for being a bit cynical about whether people will learn anything at this stage - how many people can there be in Hib who haven't been playing for 2+ years already?

hehe yeh was just thinking the same :p
But we can get ALOT better still, if people are willing to try all new stuff and tactics, also smarten up and be alot more dedicated towards BG's.

And about my above post, figure this : we get a BG to a keep, we treb it for 10 min and we get wiped. Now if we go back with new trebs and keep trying, we will get another 10 min on the wall and after a few tries we break the wall. Its not THAT big of a deal to release and rebuff etc, we can get anywhere in the frontiers to any keep faster then they can repair an wall most of the times.

Wasnt there friday but if the port wasnt broken you will get albs there very fast.
the only time you would find it undefended is if you moved everyone without being spotted and chances of that when albs are swarming hib-frontier are very very slim.
Maxis if yours was the only balanced full group why are you suprised that people were not running siege well, if it was mostly mages you cant expect them to man a ram and people without proper healing will not last a minute.

The BG on wednesday went well, slow starting, when we left first time all we had were 2 NE groups.
We got wiped very quickly by a powerful alb group, we tried again, slowly picking up numbers and managed to take and hold a bolg tower for a very long time which delayed the rest of the albs from getting to behnn.
We did very well even though we were badly outnumbered and out realm ranked.
Several groups seemed to be 'roaming' this is not a problem but at times we need thier assistance, as the main /bg can not survive a powerful attack from high RR group when they are already occupied.

Several things can cause a BG to fail, my main enemy is boredom.
If people are occupied and having fun then they are happy to follow, spend too long waiting around and they go off and do thier own things.

There are a lack of support types, mainly due to the fact that they get a lot of hassle and its very frustrating.
You can only take so much heal me, buff me, rezz me ect before it gets to you.
But it would help if you saw on /bg that there were lots of solos and brought on a support type and started group yourself.

Mastade had a good line in his BG, 'if you have a druid in group then get on ram'
The more people on war ram the faster it goes, the quicker you get door down the faster you can get inside and the less defenders you face.
Everyone should be able to carry siege, if everyone had 2 dimi on horse then we would not run out quickly but as it is it seems very few carry it.
edit: the CM bug is causing a problem with this, i have a full page on merchant of dimi siege but its on page 4 so most cant seem to see it.

The problem wasn't just with rams, it was trebs too - trebs in positions where the operator would not have been in any danger but had to stay out of skirmishes with albs. We called on several occasions for people to take trebs over from our group after we'd put them up and nobody came - seemed they preferred to get farmed. With one on the ram and 3 on the trebs we were unable to take incoming and the whole BG got wiped.

Even 1 more opted group would have made all the difference, but people in small groups can certainly use trebs tbh.

People weren't quitting out of boredom; there wasn't time for that. People were quitting because of wipes.

I wasn't surprised that people running in small groups with no healing were getting farmed; I was bemoaning the fact that everyone decided to log on their damage classes and skirmish with the albs rather than form proper groups and do something useful.
