I was deliberately not saying what the actual comment was, because what disturbed me was this idea that you can say ANYTHING and people should ignore it because of a smilie. It seems to have been popping up a lot lately. Some people are making honest light hearted jokes, others seem to enjoy using it to cover being as abusive as possible.

Hence my asking you to imagine an insult of your own, untrue, said by a total stranger, who is just having a bad day and wants to take it out on someone. He uses a smilie, and claims that should make him immune to anyone getting annoyed.

This is not a joke by someone you know. Its a total stranger, he is saying it in front of a lot of people who don't know you either and may believe he is serious. He uses a smilie and claims that makes anything he says ok. So is there anything that he could say which would annoy you even with his smilie at the end.

Pick your own insult or accusation. He says you macro, you radar, you hack accounts, you cheat, you steal. Maybe he says you are a moron, have strange sexual tastes, or perhaps he threatens to injure you, your girlfriend or your child in real life. Exactly which comment is the one that really makes you mad is going to vary between people, so pick what would really make you mad. Does a smilie make anything ok, or is there something that would annoy you? Is there a limit where you would protest.

Normally of course you do. We all know there are idiots in the game and we ignore them a lot of time. For example, the ones who every time they die in rvr scream that the person who killed them was cheating without stopping to check something basic like yes, that person is a class with that ability.

There are plenty of random insults thrown around that people do ignore, but sometimes they react to them. Sometimes people shrug off most things, but have one or two things they react violently to. What really hits someone as being a really unacceptable remark varies a lot. I've been quite surprised by people going berserk about things I really didn't see as that bad. Maybe the things that hit my personal go berserk button would seem equally strange to others, but on the other hand maybe they wouldn't since saying them would earn you a ban on FH.

some people are more sensitive than other. Instead of using smilies after a malicious comment we/you/they should be more careful when we/you/they speak to them...

theres always going to be the exception to the rule..
like me im an exception to the rule....
but yes there is exception to be used by people like me.. who answer with sarcasm and the use of a smiley does help to emphasise that..
