I don't think democracy is always the best option. The problem is the candidates do not campaign on their ability to do the job and people do not vote on it either. So you end up with people being elected for irrelevant qualities and being rubbish.

A person put into place by a benevolent dictator is much better, but it all depends on whether the dictator is motivated by a desire for competency and is a good judge of the candidates. A lot of the time you end up with people just putting their friends or popular people into place.

Democracy sucks.

Most of the countries claiming to have democracies (like UK or USA) actually only have periodically renewable state dictatorships or severely restricted pseudo-democracies. (i.e no real choice, your vote doesnt count, manipulated voting system, manipulated information systems, etc, etc, etc.)

Countries with "real" democracies (like Switzerland - even though they de-democratize ~20% of the population (not legally domiciled) & another ~25% of the legal population (not swiss citizens), & thus only represent ~60% of people living in the country at any given time) have problems like it can take years or even decades before all legal appeal possibilities are finally out of the way thus making it impossible for said country to react quickly in an increasingly volatile world.

At the end of the day any real democracy is going to be a country ruled by the mediocrely average majority.
Bad move IMO.

Satyn wrote:Well my dear thats how things are usually done around here. I've pm'd for eg Scabs a lot to ask him/tell him things about some posts he made. All mods do that as far as i'm concernd. Sometimes it takes a lot before a warning is actually given. If a person keeps trying to flame another person and after couple of written warnings he doesnt stop he either gets thread banned or he gets a warning.
Its not cos all of a sudden you see: warning (1) under someone's post that that warning has been given without an explenation.

Edit: Kind of hard to find a moderator without opinions btw...who would wanna moderate a forum which he has no real interest in?

Edit2: And from the members, less whine!!!! :) lets make this board enjoyable and fun to read...your not supposed to get upset when you cruise the forum!

Yeah, but what is whining and what is stating your disagreement with something.

No matter what system is chosen for selecting mods & posting rules not everyone is going to be happy with it.

Certain moding decisions have been made recently which certain people have not been happy with but on the whole I think the mods here do a pretty good job & on the very rare occasion where I've not been 100% convinced I've found the mods here to be open to reasonable discussion & prepared to put aside personal differences & be genuinely flexible for the good of the forum.

You can't really ask more than that.
We're all merely Human after all.
(well ... I'm a Sylvan, but thats irrelevant :p)
I don't think I could do the job better.
