Dori ze forum necromancer!

Side note: Running in a fg enemy emotes aren't as useful as maeloch might think.

I only know this, /surrender= insta kill :D

I played my shade for a while in the old era and that /dismiss fairy tale didn't happen either. Infi popped, I did a /hug to show him I don't want to fight as mids are inc, didn't draw my sword either, he attacked me, we both popped, steamrolled by mids, eos. I highly doubt this changed. (and no there was no /dismiss emote at that time in the game, hug is generally friendly, especially coming from a female elf shade, well usually !) Less fairy tales regarding the use of emotes.

Sounds good in theory, but in practice, it never happens.

/laughing at someone once or twice is fine and part of the game interplay. Repeating the emote 72 times is excessive. It's important to note that this policy does not only apply to emotes. Continually doing /y or /say for example with the intention of flooding chat buffers is forbidden as it's deeply annoying, very childish and totally unecessary.
Repeating the SAME emote is against CoC, but what about doing this:
/rude /taunt /slap /laugh /rude /taunt /slap /laugh
/rude /taunt /slap /laugh /rude /taunt /slap /laugh
/rude /taunt /slap /laugh /rude /taunt /slap /laugh

is that against CoC? It's definatly not repeating the SAME emote, but it's also considered flooding, isn't it? It's a systematic repetition of SEVERAL phrases, thus indirectly NOT against CoC - right? If you can clarify that, plz do :)
Requiel wrote:The reason you're hearing about it more these days is because a certain well known Alb/Excal player was reported for getting very happy with /emote macros. We considered that his over-use of this constituted flooding and slapped him for it. Since then he's taken it upon himself to report every single person who emotes at him. Some of these reports are justified and so we took action. Those people then did the same and the issue spiralled. Now it seems to have settled back to a more sane level.
So where do you(GoA) draw the line?
5, 10, 20 or more emotes being spammed, or do you give out a warning of some sort? It's nice to know before I /curtsey my next SB :satyn2:

As Maeloch doesn't just run fg & never has then he probably finds it quite useful. A lot of people that solo use emotes - why should they have to spend their life resetting their ignore list because some people think it's clever to flood the channel?

Erm even this lovely forum of ours has a protection against forum flooders (thers a limit how frequently you can post a reply or use search), would it be that hard to code it in DAoC? :P

Don't be selfish, immature and flood channels .... not that hard!

(HappyG does have a good point about building the protection in though ;) )

wonder if its a 'do it once and be banned' ban
if the person is a serial spammer then would it be more accepted as a good ban? :)

People have had enough notice with all the whine about the bans to know it's a banable offense, if they still do it I have no sympathy if they get banned first time.

oh i dunno

if you suddenly see a friend who you havent seen for ages in rvr you coudld prolly spam them with hugs etc.
Under the emote spamming rules you could techncically be banned for being happy your friend exsists again :).

Or is it just evil emotes?

You could be banned, if someone reported you. As the person you are spamming is a friend they would be unlikely to report you, but someone else could who sees it. Remember it doesn't need to be spamming to other realms, spamming your realm mates is just as banable.

I am sure that GoA use some sense in their banning, and don't just ban for the fun of it. Spamming 2 or 3 hugs is not likely to be an issue, any more and you should really be aware of it's effect on the other players, who may not know you, around who are affected by it, and could report you.
