There's a bit of a misconception here.
People seem to think that we ban for doing a few emotes that people might find offensive. It also seems to be thought of as a new thing. Neither of these are true. Doing /rude, /laugh, /taunt etc is not in itelf offensive, it's part of the game and anyone who is offended at having their little digital man laughed at by someone elses little digital man should probably be out in the fresh air more and not playing this game.
What people are being slapped for is for breach of this part of the CoC:
Code of Conduct wrote: "Flooding" (the rapid systematic repetition of one phrase, which interferes with communication between users) is forbidden, as is all abuse of the means of communication that can be accessed on the site.
/laughing at someone once or twice is fine and part of the game interplay. Repeating the emote 72 times is excessive. It's important to note that this policy does not only apply to emotes. Continually doing /y or /say for example with the intention of flooding chat buffers is forbidden as it's deeply annoying, very childish and totally unecessary.

The reason you're hearing about it more these days is because a certain well known Alb/Excal player was reported for getting very happy with /emote macros. We considered that his over-use of this constituted flooding and slapped him for it. Since then he's taken it upon himself to report every single person who emotes at him. Some of these reports are justified and so we took action. Those people then did the same and the issue spiralled. Now it seems to have settled back to a more sane level.

thought it was also because of a certain well known mid/pryd character as well :mwahaha:
Crom, Druid of Na Fianna Dragun

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...the A(nimist)-Team

Cue music for full effect.

Thanks to Tuthmes for the link.

I beg to differ.

Isnt that what /ignore is for?

If /ignore does not work (for instance it has not always worked correctly) then why have it.

I see the /ignore system working quite simply as "User A is annoying, spamming crap, begging, <insert whatever else in here>" then you get /ignored.

Am I using the system incorrectly?

I don't really think the whole realm should have to use /ignore command just cos 1 guy doesnt behave himself, personal problems against a specific char is imo the time to use /ignore...but if its a problem that affects everyone I think the GM's should interfere.

Edit: Which imo is why all the spam mail I get is being put in my junk mail but I'd prefer if the actual spammer got stopped as I seriously doubt anyone want his shite

The whole realm doesnt need to use it, only the people affected by it.

The whole realm has not been affected by this therefore /ignore is your friend.

I love seeing people /rude my solo chanter when they have just ganked me with a full group and I get the same insta treatment as fg's.

If its a guy constantly spamming I think it will affect the whole realm at some point...and I seriously doubt it was a couple of /wave he spammed tbh (dont have a clue).

Edit: Personally I dont like the emote spam in rvr. If I die constantly cos of lag the last thing I wanna see is an enemy laughing.

Edit2: Does ignore actually work on emotes? Also, as requiel said laughing 72 times isnt really nice..

i dont think 72 is the magic figure, dunn what the magic figure is tbh
Nothing in the world can take the place of persistance. Talent will not: nothing more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not: unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistance and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.......

The issue isn't just about what people see, but what the servers have to do. /ignore has no effect on what the server is processing, and therefore doesn't stop chat buffers getting flooded etc.

/Edit: Thanks for taking the time to reply Requiel, and clarifying the situation :)
