what is Operation free Iraq ?
class thread. Thanks for the laugh
But in order to keep the intelligence people happy downhere (and to keep american assassins off my back) I declare that I am NOT gathering any oil and am in fact babysitting orphan Iraqi children while taking care of their garden.

Now, to try swing the thread back towards the question asked, then yes, I believe it's the overall name the Americans have given the ops downhere, although I've seen a few others also. I like the British name better though:
Op TELIC (Operation Tell Everyone Leave Is Cancelled) Or perhaps it's something else, but it sounds cool
I'm working as a private, being part of the Danish battlegroup that has an area of responsability in the southern part of Iraq. Our mission is to patrol, escort and try to teach the Iraqi Security Forces to take care of their own country (which according to some people, they won't be until the country has run dry of oil).
We patrol to keep the bad guys off the streets and to apprehend those that don't, although we can't exactly apprehend them, because the Iraqi Police has to
Anyways, I'm not really bothered if the whole invasion thing is to secure the oil sources of the world. I'm here to offer a drop in sea of aid to a people that have had enough suppression for a very long time. I was offered the job, and I took it as:
1) It's an adventure of a lifetime.
2) I feel that I'm personally doing more good then sitting at home in front of the tv saying "yeah, I'll give $10 to the organizations" (Which don't dare enter the country at its present state)
3) It's more than decent money for a 22-year-old bloke with no education
4) I had no idea what to do with my life (bad thing is... I still don't)
5) I don't fancy travelling just for the sake of seeing things, I like having a purpose :\
3 hours later.
My scheme has been thwarted! The Americans blew up my pipeline!

would you believe me if I said I haven't fired a single shot downhere for 4 months? At least not outside the firing range.
Actually, I believe that the amount of rounds fired by my platoon in theatre can be counted on two hands.
