It's somewhat ironic that the journey from Derbyshire to France becomes laggy as hell yet the journey from Derbyshire to the US to play the servers over there is largely lag free. I think that in the time I've played on the US servers (about a year now) I've gone LD twice, maybe three times and that was when they had initial technical problems following the cluster implementation.

This still does not excuse the fact that there is no lag when i connect to the german servers - if its open transit then why do i not lag on them? why damn it?!

Tbh if it is open transit then fine - not GOA's fault
But how can it be?!

Any one want to launch a protest march across lyonesse?? I know i sure as hell do - any one interested pm me in game on childofkhain or reply here - imo we all roll level 20's with names like: Fromprydwen withlag

and if we dont get lag there as say - 50 of us roaming odin's gate in a mob of /leveld chars then we storm the evul oppresors gates that are GOA HQ and kill them all and capture the wonderful server that is lyonesse drag it back to our relic keep and /cheer and /vic at no more lag for us!

I think you will find that a certain german server had problems last year and very many of those populated on that server came to pry to roll anis and protest with crap loads of lag in OF - thus getting themselves banned. This wasn't a minor case though, but an interesting outcome into how GOA deal with protests.

You may well have a different route to other DAoC servers which is why you have lag on Prydwen but not on Lyonesse or other servers. I can assure you that the Germans and the French all felt the lag on their servers just as English players did on our servers. All EU servers except the test server and Camlann are running on the same spec hardware. Avalon does not enjoy a better set of boxes than Prydwen.

As far as details about the lag problem itself is concerned, it seems to be certain routing combinations in several hubs close to, but outside, our network. We're passing on all the information that we recieve to OpenTransit in an effort to get it resolved as quickly as possible. They've been making adjustments since Friday morning trying to pinpoint the problem and eradicate it however it isn't as simple a process as it sounds. Both parties are working on it still and will be doing until it's resolved.

We didn't ban them for protesting. If they had organised a non-damaging protest it would not have been punished. What was punished was the deliberate and premeditated attempt to crash a server thus impacting on other players enjoyment of the game - in other words, griefing.

there is nothing wrong with just rolling some random level 20's to play on a server its not like we are rolling 50 animists to spam pets and make the whole place lag like hell when we let the pets duel each other <which is what they did actually>

Ok fine Req but can you say how long we must wait till this problem is resolved? We still have no firm answer as to what estimated time frame you are looking at other than what I assume to be 'as soon as possible' as the Friday news did not indicate any sort of time frame as to when but rather what is being done to resolve it. Surely there must be some form of compensation to players in general because of this? And if not why not? It seems fair to me, I've just logged from Prydwen again because the game is unplayable, and yes you are right, I just logged to Stonehenge and found a similar problem there. So it is not just an isolated problem on Prydwen; as reported by the Friday news on GOA homepage in the community section but rather a global game problem as you so rightly pointed out. The consensus of us (not just on Pry) would probably like to see something sorted out for the players other than just the problem fixed with the usual proforma answer to inform that the difficulties have been isolated and fixed - that is simply not good enough for the paying customer.
