I hate MLs and it's not because they are too hard, it's because they are too dull. There is no challenge. Yet again it all comes down to spending enough time at it to succeed. MLs have rarely been about enjoyment for anyone. Some people like them, but the vast majority of people actively dislike them and only do them to get the abilities.

To me this is exactly the type of anachronistic mechanic that on the one hand keeps players spending time in the game but on the other hand severely limits the entertainment value.

One day this must stop. Not because I want it to, but because a games company, or more likely various games companies, will service our needs in much better ways. Someone will make PvE game with dynamic content and real immersiveness. Someone (else, probably) will put together an RvR game that works with no PVE overhead but avoids being an FPS. And someone will do a PvP game that isn't plagued by exploits and lameness. It will happen, and as soon as the first game of that quality hits the shelf, it will force the rest to follow suit, because having an truly enjoyable game available will cause people to leave their timesink games in droves.

For me, the trading of ingame items and currency is nothing other than a manifestation of the inadequacies of the games we play. You SHOULD enjoy the process of amassing a plat. You pay your subscription with the idea of being entertained. If it's not entertaining getting your plat, the game is letting you down. If it is so far from being entertaining that you pay more money to avoid spending time doing it, the game is a farce.

Hmm...slightly OT but stating that a character lacking ToA items and ml's can compete in RvR is just...hmm...I'll keep the more graphic description I had in mind and just leave it at...strange? ;)

Then again the possibility exists that I'm just so incredibly useless a player that I should just cancel my acc. and shut up already. :p

Not sure I agree with that (Surprise surprise ;) ) ...

When 100 people do ML6 or ML8 then they are dull and not a challenge, but if you try doing them with fewer they do become a challenge, and they are a lot more fun then.

When Venoid did his run through from ML1 to ML10 the first 2 or 3 runs a week were simple zerg fests, but the later ones became a challenge due to reduced numbers, and I enjoyed these a lot more.

the early zergy ones were good too i thought. the novelty was still there in full effect, there was an absolute buntload of people in attendance as well. Was a happy time

I like doing MLs...atleast when the people on the raid listen to the raidleader and don't whine...or try to ruin the raid :)

You don't need MLs to compete on a lot of classes tbh, am doing fine with my minstrel at only ML2 sojourner, my theurgist is ML10 convoker but I could live without it and do very well no problem. Overall though there's plenty of chars that can do fine without MLs although for some it's essential (bodyguard on a friar for example), Mythic has now hit a point where their original goal has been acheived pretty well - that not everyone in a group needs MLs to compete.
