But they will only enable this service on selected serveras. Those servers will have characters rolled by people who are willing to buy/sell online stuff for real money. The community will be fuill of like-minded people.

i can just see this becoming more popular as a result. Hope they realise what they're starting

At least SoE have acknowledged the situation, and not just buried their head in the sands like Mythic.

If it stops people getting ripped off then it's got to be a good thing tbh, and as long as they keep it on specific servers so the customer still have the choice then even better.

Well it's like Mythic said - it's a game, real life money trading shouldn't come into it and if people do get scammed bringing it into it then it's their own fault as they weren't supposed to be putting themselves in that situations. Mythic specifically allows trading of full accounts which is a good thing as it keeps player numbers up instead of forcing them to quit and outright cancel their accounts but they do not allow individual trading of items/money which is also great in that it doesn't break the economy and such.

The fact is, Sony is doing this only because they see it as another revenue stream for themselves, it's not about protecting the buyer and seller but increasing their profits even if that's at the cost of destroying gameplay somewhat. I do agree that this is a very bad precident to set, but then Ultima Online has offered for sale things such as half-levelled characters for a long time so you can pay to not start from scratch which imo was a pretty lame money grab.

Mythic allow trading of accounts because it's relatively simple & painless for them.

Mythic don't allow trading of other items, but when have they ever put their money where their mouth is and actively done something to stop it?

I don't disagree with Mythic's position as such, but I don't think they are the ones in a position to say anything.

Personally I have never, and would never buy anything in game for real life cash (other than the game itself), but if SOE want to offer the service on specific servers then i don't have a problem with it, afterall it means that people on my server would be less likely to be actively trading.

I think it would be great if Mythic let you buy ML credit or buy artifacts - if you are a casual gamer it is one way to get past the time sink that ToA creates.

Say £10 per ML, and £10 per activated (but not levelled) artifact. At the very least, it would mean that people had the choice, if (for example) they had missed a number of MLs due to RL commitments (story of my life TBH) whether to wait or pay and get it over with.

I would gladly pay, not because I am lazy, but because I often work until 7PM GMT and the commute home from Central London is 1 hour. I miss just about every ML raid there is. My weekends are spent with my GF, so generally I find it very difficult to make any progress.

Now if THIS idea would ever get real I would instantly quit the game.
They have already increased the speed to reach level 50 so no way I'd stay if they'd make it even faster by giving you the chance to buy stuff for real money. Whats next, buy realm ranks cos you don't have enough RL time to do the RvR?

If they hadn't ignored the problem until a competitor came along and did something they are jealous of I might agree ...
