This caught my eye, finally:

New surveys next week
Beginning of next week you will see two surveys in game. These surveys are meant to help Mythic improve Dark Age of Camelot to your taste. One will deal with the communication systems you would like to see added in the game and the other deals with craftsmanship.
Here are the questions you will be asked next week and about which you will have time to think during the weekend. With these surveys you can choose as many options as you want.
1st survey
We would like to know which types of communication you would like to see integrated in Dark Age of Camelot.
-I do not wish to answer this poll
-In-game voice chat (such as Teamspeak or Ventrilo)
-In-game email system
-External instant messenger software connected to the in-game chat
-In-game player controlled bulletin boards, accessible in town or in houses
-None of the above

2nd Survey
Based on community feedback and the responses from our latest polls, Mythic has outlined a potential plan for crafting changes. In this plan, the crafting system will be completely overhauled, based on the goals listed below. Please help us determine which changes you would prefer for Mythic to focus on for improving the crafting system.
- None/I do not wish to answer this poll.
- Make tradeskills more accessible by allowing choice of any tradeskill and by allowing choice of multiple tradeskills.
- Make the crafting system easier to use through updating the interfaces, simplifying recipes, making craft times faster, increase the chances of skill increases, and decreasing failures.
- Increase the desirability of crafted items through quality and imbue adjustments, as well as provide unique bonuses through Spellcrafting and Alchemy.
- Augment existing tradeskills through new item types such as repair kits, multi-use potions, and objects with predefined abilities/stats that do not conflict with Spellcraft or Alchemy combines.
- Distinguish crafting locations from each other by granting different bonuses to crafting in the capital city and through craft stations found throughout the world (including housing).
- Make tradeskills easier to use in the field, through use of portable craft stations.
- Provide opportunities for more crafter oriented rewards through additional tradeskill quests and rewards on reaching tradeskill ranks.

Well the MMORPG market moves ever onwards and whether people like WoW or not, it can't be denied that WoW has raised the bar of player expectations in certain game features. Two things that work very well in WoW are the in game mail (where you can even mail items to your other characters, with a 1 hour delivery delay) and the Auction House (more trading fun than fixed price consignment merchants).

If you only have one account in DAOC and don't own a house, there's no way to move items between your characters without the aid of a friend. An in-game mail system is something that should have been implemented long ago.

It would be harder to implement an auction house in DAOC on top of the market explorer system, but even if they were to consider it the time would better be spent improving the crafting system which needs a massive overhaul.

Does that work like the FFXI one? In FFXI, you put an item for sale at a certain price and people can only buy the cheapest one. In effect, it isn't really an auction at all. It is still great for the economy. The daoc equivalent would be merchant explorer where it only shows one of each item.

In the WoW auction system you put an item up for short, medium or long duration (where short is 2 hours, long is 24 hours) and set the start price and an optional buyout price (like Buy It Now on Ebay). You can also set the start and buyout prices the same if you're confident about your item and don't want to auction. The longer term auctions cost more to place (as do higher level items) so the system encourages a fast turnover of items, which makes for competitive pricing (as you don't want to keep getting stung with placement fees trying to achieve the best possible price).

The shopper can view all items for sale and choose which to bid on. Of course they're most likely to choose the cheapest, but sometimes if the wait for an auction to complete is too long or if they want to secure an item a shopper will bid on a more expensive item or pay the buyout price (if there is one).

There's some fun to be had on the WoW auction house buying up good deals and selling them on for a bit of a markup. Takes time and a lot of searching the system, but some people enjoy spending their time doing that.

WoW did not introduce ingame email or player item auctions. SWG had them too. And CoH has email though not auctions. I think the baseline feature set for MMORPGs has moved on and some features are starting to look so ubiquitous that DAoC's not coming off too well not having them.

Crafting has to have:
- Increase the desirability of crafted items through quality and imbue adjustments, as well as provide unique bonuses through Spellcrafting and Alchemy.

Quite frankly everything else is an extension of this. As it stands crafting has nothing to offer apart from gap fillers. If crafting would provide an alternative to drops then it might be worthwhile to be a crafter again (apart from being alchemist in Europe - US doesn't have the option for barrels). (Reminds me I had to send feedback in response to the TL reports.)

As for in game communication I would really like to see some boards - similar to the ones UO had. Wasn't perfect but it helped in game communication in a way that was explainable in the context of the game.
It also doesn't make me go through unsoliticed mail (aka spam - aka how much viagra do I want today) when I log in.
