Is it Zerg or Bust for the casual player in RvR nowadays?
Ok, posting this for discussion, not for flaming of those of us who are not wtfpwnL33T, so please consider others opinions and playtime before responding
From my observations recently (Since cluster)
I am beginning to feel that all the casual players are basically being forced to play in Zerg warfare as the increase in High RR guild groups since cluster has prevented a lot of PUG or casual Medium RR (say 3-7) alliance groups from being able to find a competetive battle.
The FG High RR scene seems very competetive and healthy, but I dont live in that world due to real life commitments and not wanting to spend every moment of my gameplay time in RVR. I am fairly sure there are plenty more like me in Hibernia and both the enemy realms
In recent threads on <spits> FH, people suggest that to improve and have fun you need to get organised, be prepared for regular thrashings, etc etc, but this seems basically a dead end solution unless you can find players of similar ability, RR, etc to actually fight against to gain this practice. You learn nothing from getting wiped in 5 seconds flat nor from standing around in a zerg hitting your basic damage/heal spell repeatedly on any target you see. Even if you form a semi organised group to work together inside the zerg you are just as likely to have members farmed by the scout zerg/WL chambers etc etc ( and no doubt Ranger zerg etc for the enemy realms) and therefore not be able to work in a coordinated fashion.
Certainly, joining the zerg night after night will gain you a regular realm point injection which can be sort of gratifying in its own way, but I dont really see the point of being a RR8 Caster who only knows how to hit his main DD spell as that is all he has done for months in the zerg.
Did all the people who would have been RvRing in the medium RR category all disappear off to Glastonbury as they already felt they couldnt compete?
I dont claim to know the answers to any of this and wouldnt presume to tell other folks how to play or spend their time, but I bet I am not the only slightly perturbed person who is frustrated by the general state of things at present

I think youre right to a big extent. But on the other hand you can compare it a bit to putting a gang together in footie that dont train much and have not played together before and go up vs a club like.....Chelsea or whatever (dont like Chelsea was just an example) Daoc is old and many groups have played hundreds/thousands of hours and millions of RP together and it pays off.
Only way to solve it within Daoc as i see it would be either to put areas where only certain realm ranks could enter, or remove the RA's from game (which would prolly fock it up totally in many peoples eyes).
Can agree that getting stomped over by a RR10 group while being out and trying to learn the fg thing wont really develop skills....nor happiness for that matter. But getting say RR5-6 (from where it should be at least poss to give a fight imo) by playing smaller groups off peak hours or joining the zerg should not be a problem. Rest is...dedication as I see it.

Probably hard for casual players to compete in RvR.
Still I never go as more then an fg myself, never add or nothing, still saying that I don't care all to much about how others play if they want to zerg then, well thats what they should do I guess.
still some says it's realm vs realm etc, and thats just mostly an excuse tbh, Zergs is okay when keep defence, relic take etc, but otherwise fg fights or 1 vs 1 is a fair way of playing and thats how I like it.
the lamest things to do imo is to as a stealther go as 2 or 3, or more and jump single targets, sure go as more then 1 is okay, but if so stay back and let 1 handle the fight.
Adding on 1 vs 1 fights is also rather lame tbh.
Still as I said, people have the right to play the game how they want to, lame or not =P
I would never flame anyone for loosing to me or anything like that as I see you have written something about that some do, still I rarely Flame, not on purpose atleast, and I try to avoide getting personal.

Its been hard ever since groups started being made purely for rvr.
The more you do something - the more you get better at it. Same with everything.
I think it depends on how you look at the game.
If you want to be a casual rvrer and still get loads of Rp with little deaths then...youre dreaming.
If you accept reality and embrace wholeheartedly the fact you will die most horribly almost every battle - you will enjoy rvr alot more and be happy when you get to kill one peep
Specialy if its a peep whos been killing others loads during the night :mwahaha:
Although the groups will still be RR higher than loads of peeps - hopefully the introduction of DR and teh dream patch will make things better for the casual as well as the non-casual rvrer as more evenly matched

well for stealthers it's a zerg tbh imo as I think they should only solo, or atleast only go solo on targets as I said, still as long as they wouldent kill of soloers as a zerg I wouldent really mind (I doubt a fg of stealthers would be able to resist this =P)
Stealthers should solo, but that just my opinon.

The problem is on most games/sports where ability counts you usually get leagues / divisions where you end up against similar abilitied people.
Because of the nature of DAOC and the fact that we are all thrown in to one arena, it raises the issues that we have discussed all too many times before.
I knew my time in DAOC was limited as soon as they increased the RR bar above 10.
When I was playing I would not describe my DAOC time as casual, like many I played way too much. However I was certainly more of a casual RvRer. There was nothing worse than getting walked over by a high rr group, who had all of the advantages.
Generally they played a lot so became more skillful, they play together a lot so develop better teamwork and understanding, and then to cap it all, Mythic reward them with even greater raw power on their characters!!!
If ever there was a case of "the rich get richer" this is it.
I know why the changes have been made, but hopefulyl Mythic will learn their lesson before running in the same problems with Warhammer.

Thats where I don't agree tbh. Imo we got 8 spots in a group, if you fill them with just stealthers or just non-stealthers shouldnt really matter. As long as its a fg its just a FG no matter if its stealthers or not. Some of the best memories Ive got from daoc is from playing with fg's of stealthers. Thats actually one of the few things I missElrandhir wrote:well for stealthers it's a zerg tbh imo as I think they should only solo, or atleast only go solo on targets as I said, still as long as they wouldent kill of soloers as a zerg I wouldent really mind (I doubt a fg of stealthers would be able to resist this =P)
