Parry question...

Why do some players say that too much Parry skill is bad?
Doesn't more Parry mean that your opponent won't be able to land as many hits on you?

They probably mean that parry has limited use in RvR and is not worth putting too much effort into parry at the cost of more of other more important stuff.

More parry means that you have a better base chance of parrying an opponent's attack ( before enemy weaponskill, your dex etc is calculated)

Think because the parry check comes before the block check, and people prefer block reactionary styles? :x.

apparently parry kinda sux in rvr (never tried it myself) but it does rox in pve :D

not entirely sure why - think it doesnt work properly in rvr or something though.

In FGvFG, tanks prefer bashing support and casters over opposite group tanks. So basicly as offensive tank, you need to do as much DPS as possible, while you are not likely to be attacked by opposite group tanks, so parry is a waste.

Also think that parry % chance is calculated after block chance, so basicly that % only goes for hits you do not block, not all hits, or something like that.

Isn't the parry chance divided with numbers of opponents beating on u as well???

Say 3 hitting on u and u got 30% parry thats 10% vs. each enemy.

This is the main reason.
Whereas with Block you always have the same chance more or less Parry degrades quicker the more opponents are on you. With the advent of the /assist train it is not as worthwhile to have as are other skills.

Also Parry always competes with other skills and is giving for RvR less returns.

Parry is only usable for you, only from front and only from melee. And as a tank thats not good enough. If you plan to make a soloer, sure, but no good spec has alot of parry imo.

I'm thinking of Parry from the point of view of a Midgard Berserker.
He can't train in shield skill, and although he can use small shields, there is no point because Berserkers dual wield with Left Axe, which is their most important skill of all. Giving up Left Axe to carry a shield is totally stupid.

Berserkers get 2xlevel skill points to train with. So, there is a lot of scope. 50 Left Axe is a must. After that it's down to choice, although I've read on the boards the following:-
Character Builder 2.0 Berserker Forum wrote:Then again, I read somewhere that Axe skill in someway helped LA damage, but this was a long time ago and may have been hearsay.

I've also read up on the "Wyrd Spec" and I've come across the following spec a lot:

50 Left Axe
42 Parry
39 Axe

But if high Parry is undesirable, then is it a good spec?

The thought that occurs to me, is that if it's pointless for a Berserker to use a shield and he only wears studded armour, then the only forms of defence available are weaponskill and Parry. So if Left Axe is at 50, then the next important skill must be high Parry?
