Requiel lag Question

Requiel,

All of us have experienced lag at on point in DAOC. But currently i am suffering from a kind of lag that i never knew could exist within DAOC. Just to make it clear i know 100% sure it is the ISP problem of the place i am atm and nothing to do with GOA.

I am confused tho since the normal lag i experienced in the past was 2 way lag. In other words you loose stick to a group and see everything delayed AND your own keypresses are delayed.

My current situation is odd tho. I can stick fine and see everything that happens perfectly. I see instantly on my screen when people cast a spell or when they type a line. But when i try to do something i have 5 to 10 seconds delay.

I always figured DAOC needed confirmation from the client about messages received from the server and visa versa. But this does not seem the case. So basically what i am asking how is it possible to have 1-way lag (up my POV) while the other way (down) works perfectly.

I don't think there is a confirm for info the server sends you. You are getting all the needed info to display other people without being able to send to the server. If someone tried to stick you they would lag (as they follow your ghost). The lag you see is normal(ish) for ISP's which are web optimised. They are designed so that the uplink (when you ask for a website) is not that fast, but the downlink is fast and relliable (so web pages appear quickly). The effect is that sometimes you have to wait a sec for a webpage, but then it downloads pretty quick, which makes their broadband look good for 99% of people. (TCP isn't totally uplink speed independant but when downloading most of the strain is on the downlink part). I had the same thing when I was on a wireless ISP. Download was fast but upload, you had to wait for a time slot so lag could be intermittently bad.

It's upload speed which is an issue in this case, try going on webcam / uploading anything and playing daoc, same thing happens.
