Restoration update

Post by Aran_Thule »

basically cut and paste from FH but answers some questions:

Just a quick update to clarify a few things.

Rogs and crafted items. We are completely unable to replace these. Rogs are generated on the fly by the game and as such aren't recreatable and crafted items can only be created by crafting them oddly enough. If I generate a crafted item then it will look like a normal crafted item, it'll smell like a normal crafted item but you won't be able to SC, alchemise or dye it. For any Rog or crafed item we are simply going to have to give you cash to replace it.

GMs and forums. Please don't expect us to be very active on the various forums for a while. Our priority is obviously sorting out the problems people are experiencing at the moment, even at the best of times forums are something we do when we've cleared our RightNow inboxes and don't have any of the things that our boss keeps track of left to do. If you have questions then ask the E&Es, other players or if it's something that only a GM can answer and it's important then RightNow it. You are very unlikely to get our attention in any other way over the next few days.

How long is this going to take?
Well we've borrowed some people from other teams, we're working extra hours every day and we were sorting out the early reports on Saturday. When I went home tonight at 11pm, there were about 550 outstanding RightNows. We're going to work through them as fast as we can and we expected a big rush of reports today and tomorrow with a steady stream over the next few days as people get back from holidays, re-open acounts etc. Please be patient with this, we are working flat out on it but it is likely to take a while to break the back of the flood.

How can you check to see what we had?
We have trade logs going back a long way. When we get your report we can bring up your logs and cross-reference the items you list with the logs. In that way we can see if you really had the item or not. I know some people have expressed concern that it's up to them to remember what they had, however we were thinking of better ways to do it all last week and really this is the best and fairest way. Nobody else knows your character like you do. Even if you can't remember every single item mostly you can remember the important things. A lot of stuff is also very easily checkable like artifacts and the SI repeatable quest rewards. If you have (for example) Battler activation quest complete and no Battler artifact then it doesn't take a database trawl to determine that you are probably owed a Battler. Equally the Paidrean Necklace/Ancient Copper Necklace/Beaded Resisting Stones are marked with an 'silent' quest (it doesn't show in /quest but we can see it in your character database entry) to say you've recieved it. As a matter of course we check all of these things when we get a report even if they aren't specifically listed as missing.

Why can't you just match up databases or synchronise logs or do something technical to give us back exactly what we lost automatically?
Because there is no way of doing that in a reasonable time scale. We could pull the trade logs for every single one of the million or so characters in the Prydwen database and recreate their last known inventory from those but it would be very, very slow, prone to human error (repetitive, boring data entry + huge database = lots of scope for mistyped numbers) and it can't be automated. Short of keeping the server down for a few months while that work went on, there really is no better way than to ask people to report what they think they have lost.

Is it alright if I keep playing after making a report?
Yes of course it is however we are sorting most of these problems out by logging your character in and actually handing items over ingame. Even a GM can't log your account in if you're already playing it. In most cases we'll ask if it's convenient for you to either log for a bit so we can log your character in or if you could log the affected character yourself. Feel free to tell us you are busy, we can come back to you later, however it's obviously in your interest to let us sort you out as quickly as possible. If you're playing a character on another server then we won't contact you (as we don't have time to track you down and relog to send you a message), we'll just wait till you're offline again.

to whine a bit.

I cant understand how anyone would accept loss on a characters stuff. I strongly recomend people to look for entertainment somewhere else.

Take your guild and friends with you to some other game imho

Whats to say this wont happen again?
Hom much crap can one take before finally canceling accounts..
A char that took months to level, gear up and so on.. wiped, gone. empty. And its YOUR responsibility to restore him, not GOA´s ?

tbh if everyone went WoW, GW, SWG or whatnot for even 1-3 months only.. that would prolly make them think twice -I hope- . ..
because our whine doesnt help.. proven time and time again..

companies like this only listen to money imo, if money says they have to restore everything - thats what will happen

Oh well everyone does what they like as allways :P
edit : soz dont wanna jack the thread..

I am playing Eve-Online and waiting to see what the fallout of all of this is going to be for some of the good friends I have made in this game. If enough end up leaving I may well end up hanging up me socks. Enjoying Eve a lot but it takes like two months to get into it - it is such a big game. Can't say I was enamoured with it at the start but beginning to seriously love it now.

tbh considering joining my fellow guildies in the us servers.
I havent lost anything major but kinda disapointed in the fact peeps have lost stuff tbh.
I actually tend to believe Goa when they said a small amount of people and since there is 1mill user accounts i guess 3k people affected is small but so far only one person (that i know) has lost nothing in my guild - 4 people on /as

the worst bit is they might not get the stuff back just plat which amedor could farm in 7hrs..

I didnt lose anything, neither did Thand. I feel lucky but it doesnt make me happy at all cos a lot of ppl i love lost loads and loads of things and thinking about quiting the game.
The more i think about it the more i'm scared that this time if ppl leave prydwen wont recover from this. :(

I dont see myself starting fresh somewhere else either ... or maybe but i dont want to think about that.

I think the players who are most likely to leave Prydwen are those who play mostly on Excalibur. If someone with say, 8 level 50 characters on Excalibur had say, 1 or 2 level 50s on Prdywen that had lost everything, then I think they'd probably be inclined to think, "Sod it! I'm staying on Excal from now on!"

I think those with all or most of their characters on Prydwen will perhaps "take it on the chin", because that's where all their friends are etc. They will probably stay with Pryd.

I do think there will be a few who will leave altogether though.

I'm just wondering if it will affect the underpopulation bonus in the long term.

I can't blame anyone for being very shaken by recent events. Given they had opted for manually sorting out corrupt data I expected things to be bad, but its very bad. Speaking as someone who supports computer systems its a... <considers using a word that would shock Aran and giggles>... mess.

OK they goofed big time. I lost everything on six characters who are now unplayable without a lot of time and effort re-equipping them. Only two really matter, one of which is a killer. I have no records other than a list of artifacts and I remember only one named item. I've now taken screen shots of everything on all my characters who still have things, but its a bit late. On the bright side, Gwennethe is ok and she is my main rvr character, so I count myself relatively fortunate.

Some people have escaped pretty much untouched and an unlucky few must have no playable characters.

I suppose its easier for me in that I play the game because of the people not the items. I'm a roleplayer and my characters personalities cannot be affected by a database corruption. If Gwennedde's devotion to cakes turned into a passion for cabbage I would be out of here....

I'm sorry if nice people leave over this. I have to understand their reasons though. I think a lot is going to depend on how well and fast items are replaced for those people who are fortunate enough to be able to list what they had. Realistically, thats going to take a while. We don't need any more problems.

Sounds just like me tbh.

It is a bit of a blow, I spent God knows how much time moving cash from Alb Excal to Hib Pryd, and now find myself broke on both realms as a result :tired:.

GoA have replaced money on one account, but I am a GoV down and some scrolls, and I await to see what they do on the other account.

It's hard to say for sure what I had, and what I have lost. At the moment I am say 80P down, GoV and some scrolls, not much compared to some I know. It's compounded by the fact I am 80P down on Alb though too! There are sme holes on my CM where I was sure I had items, but I don't know for sure.

I was on the verge of leaving Pryd again, but hopefully we will all pull together and get through this.

I just hope some Love Story scrolls are farmed and on the CM for a reasonable price (not 40P for 3/3 like we have now).

At the end of the day, it's just a game! :tongue

It may be jsut a game, but it's a game all of us have spent alot of time invested in.

Now thankfully i just have a no 50 who's decided to get all naked in the frontiers. So i'm awaiting responce from GoA.

I just like to point out something here, somthing that has so far been over looked.

According to a post last week ( i think) from one of the GM's, it wasn't GoA who deleted the itamz .. it was Mytic.

But i can fully understand why people are considereing Quiting/moving server.

Myself , Pryd has become my stress free home , not even Ankh spamming /as or moley can take away the sheer plesure i have when i log on and just see peeps helping peeps =).

I look forward to seeing you all out and about =).

of course once clustiner comes along , if you piss me off i'll log on my Op'd Tic to pwnz0r j00 ;P

Tbh i am seriously considering not renewing my accounts when they become due again at the end of this month .
I've lost virtually everything i had bar whats on a couple of lowbie chars ( lvl 5 - 15 ).
My main char , Malanari is completely stripped , along with everything in personal vault , and 2 house vaults full , including the vaults themselves , numerous merchants and god knows what else .
My other 2 highest both in the mid 40's are completely stripped as well , and a lvl 27 animist is now in chain armour ( no joke) .

I would be happier if GOA could inform us what actually caused this corruption and why they appear to have no intact backups of the database that they could use .

Giving people artis back and a sum of cash goes partway to making me feel slightly better . But it in no way makes up for lost time etc that it took people to get their chars to where they were at .
To me it feels more like a consolation prize , kinda like, oh sorry , i appear to have smashed your huge cake , nm have this mini cookie instead .

But thats just the way i feel atm , that may change , it may not , only time will tell tbh .

( in no way am i assuming to speak for how others feel , this is just my feelings )
