Prydwen-down (Information thread)

[24-08-2005] Temporary shutdown of Prydwen

Several bugs have appeared on Prydwen since yesterday, which mainly concerns the loss of chat channels and some cases of character corruption. Despite our efforts and those of Mythic made to solve these malfunctions as soon as possible, the situation did not get better.

As a preventive measure, we closed the server until the resolve of these bugs. Of course, this leads to the postponement of the Prydwen-Excalibur clustering that we had scheduled for Thursday the 25th - at the same time as the French servers, Carnac and Orcanie.

We will, of course, do everything possible for a quick return to normal of Prydwen and the server clustering will take place quickly after that.

What can i say?
Sigh

Server down all night :(

[25-08-2005] Investigation still pending on Prydwen

We are still working on fixing the bug on Prydwen but the source of the issue has not been identified yet. We are sorry but we cannot give you an ETA for the restart of the server. Rest assured that solving this problem is the priority of our teams and those of Mythic
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's face it, Prydwen is gone for good. :(

in there there is a little detail saying they found the issue...

and they are working on it...

I guarantee you that if Xalin or any other GM type person was pestering a techie every hour for an update two things would happen:

1. the fix would take a hell of a lot longer to attain

2. the techie(s) who is trying to fis the problem will get pissed off with being constantly interrupted and being chased for a progress report will snap and rip the head off the next person to come close to them... even if it happens to be someone bringing a much needed cup of tea or coffee!

The directors of my company know damn well not to come and hassle me when there is a serious issue, they will let me get on with fixing the problem and getting things running, the discussion phase will always take place after things have settled down again. I'm sure that the GOA techs are the same.

Update:

Ok just got out of a minimeeting and here is the deal:

Prydwen will NOT be up this weekend. We have now located the problem and it's a biggie. I'm not at liberty to discuss what has caused this I'm afraid.

We're slowly getting used to the fact that all this will eventually end in a rollback. Watch out this is NOT an official statement that we're rolling back but if I had to put money on something I'd put it on a rollback. And to answer the question before you can ask it: NO I have no idea to when we'll roll back.

Once again we hate a rollback almost as much if not just as much as all of you. We realise it's the most awfull thing that can happen and will continue to look for a different solution. But it's getting more and more likely that we'll be forced to perform a roll back on Prydwen.

I do have a bit of good news too! The problems with the housing zone on Excalibur are in no way related to the problem on Prydwen. We assumed it wasn't before but were now able to confirm this.

About this thread:

I sure hope people are still able to fight their way through all the +1 posts in this thread but hey... I'll keep posting bits of info as long as I think I'm helping a couple of you with it. A shame really I didn't want to close the thread as I wanted to give you guys the option to give your feedback and ask your questions. A lot of you seem to appreciate it (thanks for the supportive PM's and Rightnows) but a few can't seem to handle this freedom very well.

Not good news. I wonder how many people we'll lose to this issue? Only takes someone being forced into trying some other game and finding they actually like it.

BTW, "not at liberty to discuss what caused it" is dev company speak for "we caused it". If devs ever find problems they can attribute to someone else, they are rarely shy about telling you.

Says...

Ok last update in this thread .. will unsticky it as well.

If more info becomes available I'll start a new thread and resticky and CLOSE that one with a link to this one.

Don't get me wrong I realise you need a thread to discuss this, to ask me questions in and to (rightfully) whine in but It's become useless as a source of information. I've learned from this and will close informational threads in the future and link to a thread you can then joyfully postfarm ... uh I mean discuss in

Last bit of info I got is that people are now looking at the database. It's has many corrupted characters in it and we and Mythic are looking at ways of "fixing" it.

Yes this is serious enough to keep the server down yet another couple of days. No we don't like to do this. No we don't think it's normal. No we don't think it's good service. But no there is no other way. Yes we will look at ways of compensation. Yes it sucks that it happens in a weekend with a bankholiday. Yes I'm going to sleep the entire weekend.
