i never played WoW so i give my general opinion about the game.
i play this game now since 3,5 years, and i have only experianced a little bit of his universum,i never played a mid or alb char...i wasnt in every dungeon,i didnt play any kind of char from my realm......the game is so interesting because its so complex, and yes because you need alot of skills to play it good.
So i think i know 20% from the game maybe less, and thats the reason i still play it.
I like the competition, the challenge....and so many other people do.

Ok make it short now for me is--->more complex--->more challenge---->more fun

Arkaon / Karak-Norn
and plenty of other chars between 10 and 30

Quick reactions do not equal quick brain speed, invariably the quickest act on instinct i.e. very little brain involvement at all. Instinct comes from repetition of tasks, oh wait, another reason DAoC favours the hardcore over the casual!

I play games for fun, I don't want to have to practice for hours on end to be able to compete, I like to sit, relax and chat too. DAoC probably does take more skill to be competitive at, that doesn't necessarily make it the better game.
I'm glad twitching in your experience isn't dictated by brain speed. Luckily for me it's about how fast I take in data on the screen, interpret it and react to it where brain speed is very much involved.

[quote="Ovi"]The discussion is about now, not 5 years ago. It's also not about who has the money to do what. It's not even about PvP! The topic was that "ToA > Wow PvE". Maybe Wow should have been better, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it is (IMO) miles better than DAoC for PvE.

Each to their own, but 6 million agree with me ]
Again that's a completely false statement, 6million don't agree with you whatsoever, a good 99% of those undoubtedly haven't even tried or come across DAoC because it never had the advertising and hype budget of Blizzard!

Indeed. I don't think anyone in this thread has disputed DAOC is still king of PvP. WoW made the fundemental and perhaps never fully fixable mistake of not building the game from the bottom up with PvP included. It started life as a PvE game and PvP only got bolted on as an after-thought after pressure from the fanbase. That was never going to work .... and it doesn't.

But in terms of PvE levelling and initial endgame enjoyment WoW has a lot to offer, though won't be to everyones taste. The PvE problems all come with the endgame grind, which is a Blizzard design decision not to everyones liking but isn't likely to ever fundamentally change.

After a year of fun levelling several characters I decided I didn't want grinding for PvP rank or PvE endgame gear to become my day job, so I left. Shame that Blizzard want to run the endgame as they do, but clearly they feel that never-ending loot upgrades and decaying PvP ranks is what'll keep the most people addicted and the revenue pouring in. Not for me.

Blizzard has a huge chance to save the PvP with the incoming xpack, since it's gonna be a new continent , thus no other constraints than their imagination - kinda clean start.
It's really a great opportunity for WoW to shamelessly rip of some good bits of DAOC frontiers concept and give to players some good PvP action.

Just wondering btw, if you want a PvE game isn't it better to just play something like EQ2?

Have they said what their PvP plans are for the expansion though? What's the likelihood they'll reintroduce some 'world PvP' instead of just more Battlegrounds? The PvP rank system would be almost bearable if it wasn't all about endlessly re-playing the same battlegrounds over and over again.

pvp isnt officially mentioned as part of it (xpack), but Blizzard would be foolish to not use this opportunity at their advantage to fix the system somehow
it is tho part of the next big patch, will see what they scre..euh do with it ;)

again on mechanics thing, i love the 'gameplay' of WoW, they way toons move, fight etc, i'd love to play such made DAOC
as much as i'd love some of PvP design Blizz team fired and Mythic guys take care of it :D

Well there's hope this fusion will be Warhammer. From the early screenshots I've seen, the graphics seem a cross between DAOC and WoW and it'll be a RvR game by design. So fingers crossed, but Mythic being Mythic I'm sure they'll find a proverbial spanner somewhere to drop into the works :D
