Well Gandelf, Mythich thought well about addons and Classic server...

Good template on Classic <- Catacombs items <- Catacombs addon <- ToA addon

Actualy on normal server you do not need Catacombs for best template, while on classic server, Catacombs is a must to have all stat capped :)

Along with stacked rez sickness, I think the idea behind this was to stop the oldskool practice of 'rez sick charging' where if u keep dying u just spam charge an enemy till you wear em down cos u have nothing to lose. (although tbh ligen campers etc prolly deserved it)

Can see why peeps would play pre-ToA servers to get out there without all the hassle, would prolly try it if was a euroversion and enuff peeps I knew were over there (not paying for US account on top of 2 EU ones). Although , I don't really remember the SI period as much of a golden age and in actual fact it was an uphill struggle having fun sometimes.

Also, as someone has I think said, the ToA bumph did give alot of classes more to do and get their teeth stuck into with ML + artifact abilities and if the game don't move on peeps get bored eventually.

re: ToA artifact skins, I hated em from day 1, hated all the realms looking the same, hated the totally OTT high-fantasy look on some of them. Hopefully, Darkness Rising will introduce some realm specific skins again, but I'm not holding my breath and can see item skins moving even more in the OTT direction.

No only played since release have NO clue what so ever on that :P

I have to agree with Shike, the end of Shrouded Isles was the prime of DAoC.
RvR was still fairly balanced in those days, you didn't need the topgear to compete and PvE was not a requirement to compete, besides some odd items and levelling to 50, which wasn't a big problem cos we had 4 fins. yes we could do that without FoP.

The community was closer aswell, I remember the hours spent in Aalid Feie (sp?) with all the crafters, Arianwyn, Nana etc., making friends cos we were all stuck there doing the same thing, crafting. I didn't get LGM Tailor because crafting was so much fun or so incredibly rewarding, it was the friendly atmosphere in that town with the massive trees.

Then ToA came along, MLs, artifacts and scrolls, all incredible timesinks, even for one character. Master Levels were fun the first time round, they became a reason to slit your wrists when you had to do it again.

my appologies :p that sounded awfully snoby of me what i said ;)

however :p to each his own yadayada

i still have nightmares re downtime and deaths due to healer oop + mage oop (oh it happens still but less rare)
