So, is it ok to say absolutely anything if you use a :)
Hhhmm so let's shift the emphasis to the victim. It's not the fault of an idiot who cannot be bothered to think before he/she types, but the fault of the victim for being sensitive to it and being in an e-place where it could happen.Xest wrote:The only solution is to learn to accept it as one of the negative sides of being on the internet. So again to put it simply, it's just something you have to deal with online and if you can't then perhaps you should either stay offline or at least avoid areas of the internet where you may become victim to it - i.e. forums.
It's kind of hard to enjoy the game to the full if you cannot maximise it and part of that is to visit the forums to exchange points of view or even just to see what events are happening. It is clear that a lot of people think we should all think more before we post, if we all take your advice and not post or visit the forums then all that is left is the pointless spam, abuse and flaming.
Why not complain ? If everyone simply accepted the status quo on everything and never raised an objection then the world would be a poorer and probably more objectionable place. Everyone has a right to raise an objection, it may not do anything, it may have some impact, we will probably never know but it still means there is nothing wrong with peaceful protest. What is important is how the protest is made.Xest wrote: Sure as hell don't complain about it though as that's not going to suddenly change the whole worlds online persona's to match how you'd like them to be.

It's the victims fault for putting themselves in a position to become a victim certainly. Kinda like jumping in front of a car then complaining you got hit.Hhhmm so let's shift the emphasis to the victim. Well there's nothing stopping anyway seeing what events are happening, you're not under some obligation to read all other threads when looking for event information - thread topics give away if it's an event thread or otherwise. You say it's clear that a lot of people think people should be nicer together yet you also realise that there is a lot of abuse and flaming, that's evidence that there's also plenty of people who can deal with the flaming. Are you really naive enough to beleive that as a result of this thread the forum will never have any flames again? In an ideal world there wouldn't be flaming, people would get along and so on, certainly I agree that'd be much nicer but it wont ever happen. There are online communities that are much more pleasant but I suggest that if you expect a forum relating to an online PvP focussed game to be a forum like that then you're misguided. It's kind of hard to enjoy the game to the full if you cannot maximise it and part of that is to visit the forums to exchange points of view or even just to see what events are happening. Pretty silly of you to suggest my comment saying people shouldn't complain about people flaming on the internet instantly means I don't think people should complain about anything ever, couldn't be further from the truth and that's quite a rediculous thing to suggest. What I did say however is there's no point complaining about this specific issue because ironically it only causes yet more forum friction about something that's never going to change anyway. Well, you could allow such things to be moderated but then people complain about that too so it's a completely lost cause and hence, as I've said already, not worth complaining about. Why not complain ?
