Some will say this patch will mean everyone will have cookie cutter arti templates, some will say this patch makes a mockery of all the hard work others have done in TOA 'hard-mode' and I can understand this to some extent as I have these misgivings too.

However, if this patch attracts and keeps new players interested or causes old players to resub (which I'm sure nobody objects to) it can only be good for the game in the long run.

Remember when SI went live? everyone was after Galla drops - then TOA came along and these same drops became obsolete in most cases - the game moves on - its likely that future add-ons will similarly make many TOA items obsolete.

It will be good news for crafters too as most people will be redoing a lot of templates :P

And without artifacts, everyone is running around in Level 51 crafted armour... so where is the difference there? All spellcrafted templates aim for the same, capping stats, skills an resistances, so they look alike and they have the same effects all together... all you can do is dye them differently.

90% of the people always complained ToA screwed the game and said it's an add-on they should have never released. After 2 years now seems like they realised that, and they decided to make it easier for people then to get their artifacts and give them more joy to play the game again. So we can only be glad a change like this might happen, cause after all it isn't 100% sure yet either.
And tbh this won't give everyone the same template, cause people will still need items that drop from encounters or other places. Making arti's easier to get isn't making capping templates easier. I've never been able yet to make an uber capped template just because i got 15 artifacts on a char.

And another thing which u need to play ur char and win duels in RvR, is just knowing HOW to play ur char. Everyone can PL a lvl50, get it ****load of arti's, a nice template, but u'll still get ur arse kicked if u don't know how to play it ;).

Personally for me I thought my templates were pretty good already, what it means for me though is that I can realistically now start putting artis like Bracer of Zo and Erinys charm into my templates, artis that were previously just too much of a pain in the arse to get whereas a lot of more casual players probably still wont be able to get these terribly easy.

As well as that good templates also revolve round good items, many are still going to lack the Zahur rings, the Immolated Rings, the uber ML8 cloth sleeves and such that they need to make an uber template with.

DAoC is a competition game, it's similar to olympics you see. Do you call your olimpic comitee "1337 speakers" because they dont change rules in a way, you could participate on next summer olympics?
I've played pen & papers rpg's for 20 years and tbh your earlier comment about daoc being all about RvR doesnt really sound like rpg to me :) cos rpg isnt all about getting the best items OR chainkilling, it's much more than that. Hell i've had loads of 'adventures' where we didnt fight at all. And the groups i've played with havent competed against each other ]90% of the people always complained ToA screwed the game[/QUOTE]

Bah Danny!!! Stop taking numbers out of the air! :D You cant say a specific % for what you don't know! (but ofc there is a chance it actually IS 90%)

This is most welcome from my point of view, as I personally find the gap between RR3 & RR5 more than daunting. After this patch it'll only be the gap between RR4 & RR5, at least for currently sub-L45 characters.

I'd still like to see a L45-50 BG with cap RR5L0, but this is a step in the right direction.

Problem with MMOs is, player input is somehow limited. In a FPS there is always space to improve your aiming, and game itself offers enough diversity so fighting with equal characters doesn't matter at all.

Yes, because equally equipped Berszerker beating equally equipped Ranger with ease is more fair, than good equipped Ranger hardly beating poor equipped Berserker.
Sorry Happyg all I see here is an inconsistent discussion and any direct reply to these points is only going to multiply that confusion. Of course the game is about competition but surely that should be equitable and fair?

You mention the IOC - well the reason why we have an olympics committee is to regulate things like performance enhancing drugs and stuff like that. So I am all for somethign that regulates unfairness if that is what they do. So in DaoC when a player in a game like this gets a major 'performance enhancing arti' its like taking EPO in cycling or steroids for weight lifting. So your analogy hardly supports your claim to be frank. Things like the Malice Axe level 10 overpowered ability simply because they can camp sites and get the scrolls over someone who pays exactly the same money but has a very busy family life. Why allow that imbalance?

I am all for open and fair competition and a fairly level playing field, not only this but allowing artis to go to the person who has scrolls and credit promotes a very important co-operative approach to getting the artis. people can now go - hey Gov is up who all needs credit? Then form a BG and hey presto - no crap about arti theft and nonsense like that. It helps to promote the community side of the game - that side that ToA destroyed.
HappyG wrote:Oh, and one more thing - good equipment helps when solo stealther encounters Marsh Horde stealthzerg on Agramon bridges, is that what bothers you?
nope not at all I think you will find that stealth zerg already has the items you speak of :p Maybe this will give more to others to be able to counter them? If so good job as far as I am concerned.

Besides I very seldom go out there I only really have time for one character and she has a nice pet called Goggy.

Any time I have been there and they have been fighting other stealth zergs it has been really good fun - so not sure what your point is. Yes there are soloers who get ganked by groups of stealthers but that is no worse than soloers getting ganked by FG's tbh. That whole discussion has gone nowhere on FH for around 8 months now and it is not likely to improve.

I beleive they call it Frontiers/Agramon, levels 45-50 zerging with each other constantly, just no cap on rps :p

Why make another BG when you already have a zone for them levels?
Albion/Excalibur

Frontiers/Agramon is L51 BG, there's nothing ATM for L45-50.
