but I live in Switzerland so I can't take sides I'd have to be neutral & have my own neutral zone where I'd be all alone with no friends

It's not that I hate germans or french but people who can't speak a secondary language can go lick an electric fence.
Yes yes I can't communicate with most of the german/french players because they're ignorant enough to rudely reply in french/german.
At least I can spam them back with hungarian, that's my jolly joker.
(also english people (those who can't speak a secondary language) whining about french/german shut up, you're no better
. Oh wait, I can understand you ! But still you shouldn't whine at foreign languages if you can't speak any)
Boo hoo.

Actually, to be fair I think most French DO know English, the problem is they're extremely arrogant - I noticed exactly the same in the French areas of Canada (Quebec). Canada is very bilingual in that all the road signs and such are printed in both languages EXCEPT in the French regions where everything is French only. It's not that they don't know how to speak English, it's that nearly all of them don't seem to want to do so if they can help it - even if they're in English speaking areas. To take that in game somewhat, I remember when Prydwen got /level 30 and everywhere else was only lvl20, there was an onslaught of French players on Prydwen speaking French all over the the newbie guilds and such.Lothandar wrote:It's not that I hate germans or french but people who can't speak a secondary language can go lick an electric fence.

On the other hand, more people in England don't speak a second language, but most Brits I know will make every effort to use their phrase book and speak the language of whatever country in and worst case at least ask the person in the other country if they can speak English to them.
I don't know what's worse, the French often being bilingual but arrogantly refusing to make use of a foreign language or the English being too arrogant to learn another language but at least having the courtesy to try and speak another language if they have to

I don't know much about German attitude towards speaking a foreign language but certainly all the Germans I've met have been pretty fluent in English and had no worries about speaking in it so my experience is they seem to have a lot better etiquette when addressing people of a different language than the French or English do.

I won't generalise as there is probably many thats good on English to, but from my Experience they seem to be rather poor at it, those I have met have spoken none or very little English.
And seeing the Germans dub about every movie that comes out makes you wonder abit...
Starwars in German anyone >.<
