Ok, as a primarily RvR player, i dont see the fact that i actualy want to progress in RR's as a bad thing... Is it?Cryn wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but was the quote I gave not a response from you to Taki on the need to gain realm ranks higher than RR1?
Also, in a previous post you stated that RPs are the endgame and in another post you mentioned that you dislike adding because it slows down your progress towards a higher realm rank.
In addition, the entire thrust of your discussion has been about leeching and people taking RPs from you.
Are you now saying that the RPs side of thing does not bother you and that it's more the impact on the fun of the fight itself that does? I can see how someone would take feel that way, but it would seem at odds with what you've said so far.
I did see where you asked people to stop making you sound like a scrooge who frowns upon fun but all I am doing is giving an honest response to the actual comments you make. I've never said, or tried to imply, that you don't like fun, but since the focus of your posts has been about RPs and realm ranks - rather than being about fun - it's a bit hard for me to respond in any other way.
I Play to have fun, fight new people, win some lose some, kill higher rr's, kill people who's death would mean annoyance to the enemy realm. Ok, so doing this goes hand in hand with RP's...
is it so bad that i want to get rewarded for doing this? recently i have resorted to just logging on to get the last few K for rr5, purely becuase the state of RvR is so shit at the moment, there is nothing else to do in RvR. As for adding, i have stated my view on that and im not gonna type that same damn thing out again.
call me greedy or whatever, but i really cant find much solace in PvE.

And you and those in the guild should ofcourse do that, just saying that If I would want to PvE to get that RPG feeling I would rather play BG II/Torment because there you have a really good story.Banana wrote:everyone in my guild like to pve and only rvr to get abilities which will help them in that pve
We like to be maxed to the hiltand its easier for us cause we dont need maxed resists!!
RvR = end game for some
for others - there is no end game...ever
Imo I think Daoc gives nothing to those that want to PvE and Rollplay really.
I have played so many RPG´s, and story/Quests is just so dull.
Even though I RvR in Daoc and it´s the only thing I want to do really, with a great story and quests it could still be ok.
PvEwise = Daoc Suxor "In my opinion that is"
PvPwise = I Love it "Even though I liked it better pre-toa, as most probably did.

One problem with BG2/Torment, they have plenty of RPG, but are a bit lacking on the MMO bit, and also I have finished both twiceElrandhir wrote:And you and those in the guild should ofcourse do that, just saying that If I would want to PvE to get that RPG feeling I would rather play BG II/Torment because there you have a really good story.

I have to agree tho that the PvE side of DAoC isn't the best, there are plenty of other MMORPGS with better PvE. Personally I would say the PvP side isn't the best either tho

What made DAoC the best MMORPG for me was the way they combined, and there was always an option to do either, depending on Mood.
I think that is the point that Pikeh seems to be missing too

No one is suggesting there is anything wrong with wanting RPs and progressing in RRs. As said before, for most of the DAoC population this is probably what the endgame is about. However, that is not the only possible endgame.
The problems with adding come down to people with differing views of the end game coming together. To take that a little further the biggest problems are usually when there is an experinece gap between people.
I remember when I first started running with a regular RvR group, inexperience meant that we tended to attack on sight, and we had a few "discussions on adding" with the more experienced RvR groups that were around. It wasn't too long though before we had the experience to look at a situation a bit closer before jumping in.
The point is that instead of being rude, take 2 seconds to think about the situation, be polite, and try to to pass on some of your expertise. As Cryn pointed out, people adding doesn't cost *that* much, and if they learn not to add it will cost you even less

hmm
what could mythic do to help the situation then?
add fluff? (etc char getting drunk, sitting on chairs in house properly like on boats?)
NPC 'make your own quest?' where you give a 'victims' name - group size and the 'victim' gets transported elsewhere where you have to rescue them (similar to instanced dungeons)
more Roleplay adventure wings (koalinth rules tbh) ?
those sort of things?
Never played BG2 tho but aran and gwenn (to name two of the most known Roleplayers) do ok with roleplaying

yeye, I have to ages ago and several times, but there havent really come anything better so could aswell take those as examplesOvi wrote:One problem with BG2/Torment, they have plenty of RPG, but are a bit lacking on the MMO bit, and also I have finished both twice![]()

Anyone liking RPG´s should have played them, really, because they are awsome, even though it´s been some time since they arrived now.
Even though Daoc is, I don´t look at Daoc like a RPG, the only think making me want to play it is as said the PvP part if they took that away I wouldent have played it for long, probably could have tested it, but wouldent have lasted as Story/Quests are so lame and boring, and ofcourse if MMORPG I want to have PvP, otherwise I could just run an singleP game on my own comp

Bit sucky on the RPG front atm though :/

Hamg on a sec, I've not called you greedy and I've already said I don't like PvE, so please don't start putting words in my mouth.pikeh wrote:call me greedy or whatever, but i really cant find much solace in PvE.
I'm not asking you to justify yourself. That's not why I posted. I posted because I don't like the idea that I can be going around doing my thing, having fun within both the rules and the spirit of the game, then if I join a fight - which I almost always will for reasons I have given - someone might start giving me grief because I've lowered the amount of RPs they'd have got from it. If you say people who add are leechers, immediately there's the implication that I would have been deliberately trying to still RPs from you, when in fact I am innocently playing the game for a bit of fun.pikeh wrote:Ok, as a primarily RvR player, i dont see the fact that i actualy want to progress in RR's as a bad thing... I'm not saying you'd be against fun or anything, but I am pointing out that the attitude of calling people leechers and having grief over how many RPs you could have got, etc, is unfair to people like me and brings us down when we've done nothing actually wrong.
You can watch your RPs as closely as you like, that's your choice. But it's not reasonable to expect ME to care about how many RPs you get from a fight when I don't even care how many I get myself.
Oh well, I maybe shouldn't even be joining this discussion since I hardly play now. I tried joining the RR last night and the game crashed twice so I gave up.
I'm off on holiday to Majorca now

it was not a personal assault Cryn, sorry if it ever sounded like that. Maybe i do get a bit protective over RP's when i know im so close to an important ding. its taken me so long to get even this far, where others have steamed ahead. (like i said before 52 days /pl atm)
So, apologies once again if i ever sounded like i was attacking you personally, have fun on hols

Manners, yes they are important.. no matter what people's views are, its usually best to be put across in a polite manner, as being abusive just loses them respect and "numbs" what they are trying to get across. Everyone can lose their rag on occasions, but if, it's not seen as justified by the recipient, it can soon build to negative emotions and discontent on both sides.
As for the example used and the resulting posts deviating to RvR leeching and the morale standing of adding in realm fights, I dont feel the need to add too much to that discussion. Most of my views are reflected by what has been posted already.
I personally work towards MLs, RRs, Artifacts and item aquistions on my Ranger to help me become more equipt to help my fellow Hibernians fight within the Frontiers and hold off the seemingly more powerful enemies. I wouldnt think twice about "adding" in the thick of battle, if I thought it would aid Hibernia thwart the enemy. On occasions, when its less hectic, I tend to let personal battles progress without my interference, if my fellow hibs have the upper hand. However, I feel secure in the knowledge, that within the laws/spirit of the game, I need not do this. Anyone telling me otherwise would get my courteous contempt.
Everyone likes to play the game in their own way and people have to respect that. It's not good manners to enforce your style of playing on them in my opinion and can accummulate to the gradual distruption of game enjoyment and community spirit. Given that the CoC isnt broken, people should have the freedom to play it their own way, but for hibernia to suvive, certain game morales and understandings need to be developed.
I like this server, compared to excal... if we head towards the more selfish, "climb the ladder at all cost" attitude, that a good proportion have on that server, then we will be in for a shock and wonder what the fuss was about on this server.
I'm the type of player, who still believes in fighting for a cause, i.e Hibernian realm defence and damnation of our enemies within their own lands.
I have no interest in topping tables and being the best of everything, but I too must respect this trend amongst our less enlightened hibernians. This is a game which you should embrace, for the fantasy it is and try to escape the real life issues that always seem to creep in. Manners helps us to suvive as a community and realm... Direct your aggression and abuse back at the real life provokers who make your life a misery and use Hibernia as your Haven.
These comments will fall on a few deaf ears and could well get miss-interpretrated, but I hope some of it gets absorbed.
