Until recently I found WoW to be almost free from network lag, but recently the Telia.net network has had some quite bad issues causing plenty of lag (10 sec pings at one point over the weekend ...), and lots of disconnects.

So much for the wonderful Swedish connections :p

Ahh..but if you read my first post I didnt suggest Telia but Sunnet :) but then mentioned wow :)
Also, if im not all wrong it seems like internet in europe is very laggy atm no matter what isp you got.
Network problems

Numerous internet providers are currently affected by network problems, and of course our own network suffer from this situation. Some of you are experiencing lag problems, which are not linked to the brief and unexpected servers shutdown on Tuesday afternoon. Thandruil sucks. We are investigating the problems along with Opentransit to solve these irregularities, but don't hesitate to send us any tests you could do on the network (pingplots, traceroutes…).

If you are basing your 'wow has lag' argument on what happens on the IF/Orgrimmar auction houses then you are wrong. First of all there is some lag caused by the fact that even in the smallest servers there are 200 people there at any time and at peak times ~500 (it's like having a relic raid at one place all the time) and despite that the zone is pretty lag free. What's causing most of the 'lag' there is your vga not being able to handle with the 200 models appearing out of nowhere+a very heave scenery filled with large houses etc. What usually happens is that the game freezes for 15-60 secs depending on the people there and then you can run around as in every other place, so i must assume it's the gfx card's problem (at least i always get green lag there, so can't be the connection).

Other than that and Hillsbrad, wow never has any lag on almost all the servers i have played (none of them are in the top 10 most populated though). Some spikes do occur, but it's really rare.

And fyi their server centers are in Paris and Frankfurt and if you start it now choose a Frankfurt based server as they have less problems than the french ones.

Holland is usually the safest bet for hosting and Datacenters.

There is some massive pipes coming in from UK, US and Asia. Many ISP's in the UK go via Netherlands for this european connectivity.
