The reason flame wars brake out is BECUASE ppl arent afraid to show there true self online.. take me for example (an i know.. im a bloody perfect example of this) my opinions conflict with... well.. everybody, so naturaly the human race stands up for there beliefs... and all it takes is one spark (or misunderstanding) and there u go.. u have a flame war

Its all in the way we say things. I say things wrong aswell sometimes, but reading over your post before you press the submit reply can make up for a lot of things.

And vega you're a sweet lad who's a bit paranoid I'm not gona stop giving my opinion, not even if you put ducktape on my mouth i find a way to say it anyway. And i didnt stop after a certain individual told me on this board that i was full of bullshit. Its remarks like that that i'm talking about.

If you dont agree with something fine, it can give fuel for a great discussion, but telling someone for eg that she's full off bullshit just because you dont agree with them is just ..... cant find a decent word for it tbh.

Something happened along the way (and dont blame goa again for this) its everyone's choice how they respond to a thread, its nobody else's fault but the person writing it. Take full responsibilty for you own actions instead of blaming it on something that hasnt got anything to do with your own behaviour.

look, this PM is not ment to get at u personaly.. or anybody we know.. or even anybody on the forums.. its just my own opinion on whats goin on
(witch i add right now i cud be so FAR wrong.. and this ALL could very likely be becuase of me..<shrug>)

When ppl arent afraid in real life satyn u will notice it becuase they wont back down.. like say u were in a shop an the guy infront of u pulled a gun on the shoplady..shopguy (the person behind the desk<sigh>) now 9 times outta 10 all the ppl inside the shop besides the gunman an the victum wood run outside... but if a person (like myself) wasnt afraid.. the gunman wood get a very big shock.. cus he was thinkin that everbody wood run...
Now that ive .... very confusingly explain the fear prosses ill explain this, when ur online hun u dont get that same fear (besides from the fact that nobody pointing a gun at u...lol) but ur always gonna act like urself online.. no matter how much u try NOT to be urself u only contradict urself and show urself without realizing it... the only problem with this is, when u have two ppl with disorderly opinions and have had a very bad day at work... .... .... i dont even think i need to tell u, i think u have coped it already

Now.. the only thing i have a problem with.. is my paranoia, becuase of what MOST ppl have posted.. 9 out of 10 comments made can be applyed to me, witch i get very very edgey about.. when im edgey.. most times ill just let rid at someone (but surprizingly that doesnt happen online) when im online (becus im not afraid) i just laugh, but if someone has a VALID comments or opinion that conflicts with myself.. u might notice that i dont actually try turn it into a flame war.. yet try an turn it into a conversation (yes.. with the cursing an all i know, but if u see past the cursing and read my posts like im talking to u irl like im standin next to u, u will see what i mean)

When on this forum some time ago i came across a flame witch was immedeatly rectafied by both partys of the insodent no thanks to the mods (not saying they didnt try an help.. but they werent given the chance.. cus those two guys sorted it out quick) im not intirely sure what happened but from what i can recall there was a misunderstanding from both sides and both sides amideatly posted explainations into what the other was talkin about... an neather of em where anywhere close to what the other was talkin about.. so both said sorry and got on with the topic, i have to say it was the fasted "makeup" posts ive ever seen.... but im question is satyn.... where has that community gone? have hibs really become that intolerable of eachother, or did i miss something along the way witch started hib on the round of "my daddy can beat up ur daddy"... bull****, im really startin to think its all aloud of BS an some ppl just need to grow up...

Altho speaking of growing up, that guy had no right saying to u about the part in UR post saying, "if it doesnt stop im going"..that in some ppls view is childish.. but all i see is the warning that was given, to me it was not childish.. to me it said "u all stfu or im gone.. cus i ant listen to u lot anymore" plus the added effect of, UR LOSSING SOMEONE WHO CONSIDERS U A FRIEND... bit (infact.. i think ill leave it at that.. i think this is long enough)

No, it's because online some people feel they don't need abide by the usual rules that govern interpersonal dialogue IRL, such a manners, politeness, use of appropriate language, social etiquette (consideration for other peoples opinions and feelings) and so on. Some people hide behind their online anonymity to say things or respond in ways they otherwise wouldn't, often for fear of social ridicule / exclusion, fear of causing obvious hurt / insult or for fear of getting a plain old smack in the mouth.

Online it's harder to pick up signals when what you're saying isn't going down very well and is causing anger or hurt. IRL you might back off and opt for tactical silence or change the subject because you can read the other persons body language and signals, online it just escalates because the subtle signals aren't there or because the terminally unimaginative can't be bothered with the subtleties of language and just pile straight in with "you suck".

The best test is to read back a post and think 'would I say this IRL if I had to face the person I was saying it to'? If the answer is no then don't press 'send', it's that simple (and I'm not claiming I manage this myself 100% of the time online, but it is something to aim for).
