It originated when barrysworld did some reformating to their account management thingy for their forums, and all accounts became called old.<username> until you engaged in some upgrade activity thing or something.. can't remember exactly
Many users never bothered to and so just kept the old. prefix.. then some people made names with old.<username> when barrysworld became freddyshouse, and now ewulweebeastie has done it here..
