Hehe, I agree here For every whiner there is one fanboi, 2 people that are very happy with what was fixed, and 2 people that think things should be fixed half a year ago, but don't bother to post about it
And tbh, whine of that vocal minority got XML fixed, not happy people who just play and get on with their lives
All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
The importance of being earnest... er honest
Your funny when you dont get itCryn wrote:There are currently 2 threads patting GOA on the back for getting the XML working and the poisonspike fixed.
Are you REALLY trying to claim that you are part of some kinda silent majority of people who have no complaints? A couple of blindingly obvious comments to make on that (a) where is your evidence for being in the majority and (b) you are rarely silent.
This is ironic in the face of the imo thing. Despite making much of sticking "in my opinion" on things you are now claiming to speak for a large number of other people. People who are conveniently silent and will therefore not need to corroborate the statement.
Lemme see what did i say:
First of all what neuron got twisted in your head that made you think i claim to be part of the silent happy people. I claim no such a thing..nor do i claim to speak for them. i have a freaking 1000 postcount. Really dont understand how you could have gotten that from my post.Quinlan wrote: This is something that will (almost) never happen. But i think they know for every whiner there are at least 2 people that are very happy with what was fixed. It is the same everywhere, the vocal minority is the one that posts. The happy people just play and get on with life.
Second: It is a given that a MINORITY of people post on daoc forums. We here have like 1700 registered users. That is far from the complete playerbase. And alot of those 1700 never post anything.
Third: It is common knowledge that people who are not happy complain and some of them make a thread on a forum and complain some more. Why the hell would a happy person make a thread. This rarely happens. For every 'happy happy joy joy' thread there are at least 10 'buhu' threads.
Thanks for the laugh tho
Have to agree, 1 day Requiel goes we have no idea when xml is gonna work again, no ETA and Darkness Rising is gonna change it again (so it's probably not gonna be up before long after DR is what he's making it sound like, or at the very least not for quite a while)HappyG wrote:Hehe, I agree here For every whiner there is one fanboi, 2 people that are very happy with what was fixed, and 2 people that think things should be fixed half a year ago, but don't bother to post about it

Then the horrible lag starts as well and the community begins complaining a lot, here, on FHs, through Right Now, as well as sending lots of feedback with negative GOA comments in it to Mythic, and what do you know, 1 week later the lag is gone (even thought it was never GOA's fault ofc...) and the xml is starting to work again... Who knows maybe they'll even finish the last restores before it's 2010!

Quin, maybe a bit more honesty is in order.
In your post you characterised the "vocal minority" as being whiners. Anyone looking at anything you've said on the subject willl see that you are clearly at odds with those people. In the world you put forward where there is a silent majority of happy people and a vocal minority of whiners, if you are at odds with the whiners, you clearly identify yourself with the happy people. It's not like you put forward a third alternative of "vocal happy people".
Your whole post was pretty much aimed at saying vocal happy people don't exist. And yet here you are, someone who constantly berates people for whining. Someone who very recently said "I am happy with the service" in a discussion on lag. This directly contradicts your claim that happy people don't express an opinion.
You may find it funny that I object to your theory, but I think I have a pretty good reason. In your world, it's impossible for everyone to be pissed off by something. Take the db problems. No matter how many people complained, according to you there was a LARGER number of people somewhere who were happy about the situation and were "getting on with life".
Rather than constructing these unprovable "common knowledge" worlds, I'd prefer we take people at their word. If someone says they are happy, they are happy. If someone says they aren't, they aren't. If more people say they are pissed off than are happy, I'd rather we assume it's something worth looking into rather than assuming they are a minority and therefore negligible.
When I give my opinion I am speaking for myself. I am not trying to convince anyone that there is a large group of people whose opinion I can also give. Whatever spin you put on it, that's exactly what you did. You said there's a large group of people who aren't posting, but you can tell me how they feel about the service - happy.
