true but think it was a logistics/time zone issue... MMORPGS have come a way in the past 4 years and I would assume that the original plan for GOA was drawn up at least 12 months before DAOC went live in europe.Norcott wrote:if it wasnt for a third party in this case namely GOA we wouldnt even have this game in europe, so much for Mythics customer relations... they didnt even want us lot over here....

As people are keen to point out, Mythic are a relatively small company in the MMORPG market (especially at the time the joined it), and they probably felt that they would be better to concentrate on a small market within a single time-zone. Which they may well have been...Norcott wrote:In fact why didnt Mythic want to open a server over here.. or open one over there for the EU players so that the time difference didnt matter..
Goa probably appeared as the easy option to gaining access to another market, I guess hindsight might suggest otherwise

Just checked, 50 - 60 ping. As Penlid said though the funny thing is I got worse problems with the euro servers because of crap routing and server side bugs at GOA's end ]In fact why didnt Mythic want to open a server over here.. or open one over there for the EU players so that the time difference didnt matter..[/QUOTE] It was always the case that DAoC was open to English speaking players, I know many euros who speak English that were in the US beta - I'd say at least 30% of the US server population are euros even now (Brits, Swedes, Italians, Norwegians, Germans, Finnish etc.). The problem is Mythic never had the resources to handle translation hence why GOA got it, I guess running English servers was just a spinoff of that. Another thing to note is that you also get asians, Australians/New Zealanders on the US servers so it's not so much that they're US servers, more that they're multi-national servers hosted in the US.Cromcruaich wrote:What is the latency like between UK and USA DAOC servers? Pings still sub 150ms?
I dont think 'attacking' goa every chance you get is the good way to get answers. If someone would go off on me like that I would just retaliate and say even less than I have before.Takitothemacs wrote:sorry Norc... but its about time that GOA answered to its customers... which we all are!
I really know where you are coming from, you hold back a lot of anger towards how goa is running it but trust me this isnt the way to deal with it.
You have been an E&E for so long and cos you didnt like the way goa runs things you quit doing it. Ok fair enough and cant blame you for doing that either but what I would like to comment on is that you quoted something out of a private GM/E&E forum. (yes you didnt mention who said it) I think you shouldnt do something like that.
And before i get flamed again that i'm a goa lover, trust me i'm long over that. I'm pretty mad myself but tbh we cant do anything at all about this. Think about what options you have. Everyone quiting? no chance in that happening. Continue to make posts like this? How entertaining they might be, its not a sollution either. You'll get flames and counter flames, stir things up ...
Maybe they'll get so sick of it that they wont even bother responding to threads.

Considering the level of useful & reliable information that comes through in said responces I really don't think this makes a soggy farts bit of difference TBQH.Satyn wrote:Maybe they'll get so sick of it that they wont even bother responding to threads.

TBH I would abandon my 'toons' in a heartbeat. It's the RL Pryd people I would missTakitothemacs wrote:Agreed... now if only we could transfer our toons to US servers.

Because (as Ovi says) Mythic were a small company when they were developing DAoC - in the grand scheme of things they still are. Opening a foreign subsidiary and localising your product takes a lot of capital. For a small company that is developing a 'stake the farm' product having a foreign licensee absorb all that cost and pay you licencing fees to boot is a very attractive proposition. It's also cheaper (and usually better) to get Europeans to localise product from English into their native languages than it is to get multilingual Americans to localise ina foreign language. Sony, Blizzard, etc don't need to licence their products as they are big enough to absorb the costs and they mostly have regional centres already in place. For Mythic, having a European partner means that they don't need to worry about the complexities of a multilingual, multicultural playerbase and can concentrate on their core customers and developing their game.Norcott wrote:In fact why didnt Mythic want to open a server over here.. or open one over there for the EU players so that the time difference didnt matter..
i see... im not conversant with game companies who run mmorpg's and or how big of a company mythic are/were at the time of release.. i can see the business logic in it and converting what would have been a loss in terms of licensee and localising the product into a profit.. quite easy money for them in those terms really, getting paid for a product yet still having control of it as well..Requiel wrote:Because (as Ovi says) Mythic were a small company when they were developing DAoC - in the grand scheme of things they still are.
