I thought Ryzom was quite nice. Only played the 14 day trial but what I saw sure looked good. The graphics are nice enough with great animations, stable engine from what I saw without any lag, enough players to make the world seem populated and they were very helpfull. The minute I got of the noobie island someone approached me and showed me the basics of hunting stuff and gathering materials, after that she gave me enough coin to get by for a while.
She was also talking about an ongoing storyline with events and rewards for those participating. (one of the benefits of a small communty I gather)
You can also make your own adventures and worlds now with the Ryzom Ring expansion released a couple of weeks ago. I don't know how it works but I suspect something like the NWN toolkit but then for an MMO environment.
I only played for 14 days while I was waiting for GOA to get my account fixed so this is all I can say about it.
I say, download the trial and give it a shot (and let me know how the Ring thing worked out
