Power management symbol in Taskbar

Every time I boot the PC the power management icon is back in the taskbar.

Every time I go to system - power management - & unclick the option "Show icon in the Taskbar" (roughly translating from german).

Then next time I boot the PC the GD icon is back in the taskbar once again.

I can't find the registry key which controls this.
Can anyone help?
(& yes I googled it but found nothing)

have you tried using "msconfig" from the run prompt? check the startup tab and see if you can remove it from there... not tried myself but know its often possible to circumnavigate issues from there.

Aye I have - no joy I'm afraid
I also tried removing batmeter.dll but you can't, not even with something as powerful as UltraEdit32

Tried just changing the power scheme in the power options part of control panel to something else like Always on or home/office desk? These schemes control a lot more than just the amount of time it takes to go into standby mode etc. They're attached for example, on mobile processors to the clocking down of the system, some laptops will drop their clock speed by a half when on battery to increase running time, switching to always on will force it to stay on so an incorrect scheme could also cause the battery icon to show.

Is it a laptop?

Check if u got a new chipset drivers set, that could fix the problem.

Then I think it's time you'll just have to accept you're going to have to live with it

BTW is it Vista or XP did you say?
