Decent free spyware remover?

Post by Amedor »

Been getting loads of popups recently, and just ran AVG through, and after getting rid of the 6 viruses/infected objects it decided to log me off. Upon logging me back in, it displayed the following picture as a background:

Just to be sure, I wondered if anyone knew any free spyware programme which I could download from the internet to help me get rid of all this rubbish.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

try these:

HijackThis - to keep track of regedit database
Spybot - Search & Destroy - searches for spys and adds, AND protects pc
Ad-Aware SE Personal - ultamate search and destroy warez and other adds

After doing them and it sorts the problem out stop downloading porn :P
Albion/Excalibur

Adalyn - Eagle Knight - ML10

Hibernia/Prydwen

Fishyflaps - Grove Protector - Ml3

<Marsh Horde>

or you could just go to microsoft.com and get their antispyware beta with real time protection.

imho, it worksbetter than spybot and ad-aware, plus its updated a lot AND it has real time monitoring.

I use it, that should tell you enough about the program.

Downloaded it. Ran it through. Restarted Compter. Ran it through again. Restarted Computer and still getting some spyware on my computer.

According to the programme this 'SpySheriff' is a spyware programme. It deleted it, I've manually deleted it several times.. but after each reboot of my computer it keeps coming back.

Also that background is still on my computer, and there is no way of changing it, since it seems to have disabled my ability to change it. And another problem that I've had is that I can't open up IE through the IE shortcut. Had to open it from a folder. Yes I know what you might say - download firefox or whatever. But I prefer IE :<.

Download Hijackthis install and run it and paste your log back here mate. I'll take a look through and talk you through step by step as to what you need to do to get your PC clean again.

Use this to remove spy sheriff

1. Run it to extract the SSFix folder to your desktop.

2. Go to start, Controlpanel, Add or Remove Programs and uninstall SpySheriff

3. Close all windows then open the SSFix folder on your desktop.

4. Double click on ss.bat (the program with the gear icon)

5. Allow it to run. When it is finished it will reboot your computer.
