It looks graphically rather dated tbh and the gameplay just looks like another DAoC/WoW clone.

What does it actually offer that makes it worth playing over any other MMO?

Thing is though, an interface is just an interface. Not a lot more they can do to present your character stats and hotkeys, compass etc. in a way that's going to be all that different than anything before.

Likewise, with the scenery and graphics, because it's based on earth-type scenery, it's not going to look much different than DAoC etc.

It's LotR. It's Middle Earth. There are Hobbits, Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Goblins, Wizards, Dragons etc. etc. You're not going to be able to diversify without being unfaithful to Tolkien's books. If anything, LotRO is bringing us back to what was probably the inspiration behind a lot of D&D games—DAoC, Warhammer and WoW included. So maybe it's more accurate to say that those games are just clones of LotR in its original form? So who is copying who?

It's usually the fact that levelling up is boring in the first place that people do want to level fast, most MMOs, in fact almost every MMO I've ever played is dull and crap until you reach the highest level and only then it starts getting fun. If you're happy running round slowly killing things that's fine, but not everyone wants to spend 15minutes between each fight, they find that in itself extremely boring.

Depends very much on the game of course and whether your focus is on PvE or PvP. I remember with fondness some of the DAoC quests that were available at low levels, as well as some of the areas that seemed so deadly, but eventually you levelled high enough that they were no longer dangerous. One area I found very exciting I remember was the area from Connacht to Cliffs of Moher. Just after you go through the little wooded area where the entrance to the housing zone now is. Had some great adventures in that area. And before that there was the Sprag Den in Silvermine Mts. and before that Muire Tomb. Then I remember the Irewood Saplings and those banshee-hag type ghouls by that stone circle on the hill in Connacht. Connla's Well in Shannon and the Mermen and vicious water Badgers.
