I also hear it has high resolution graphics!
The best PvP would be no PvP at all, & it does have a little PvP (although 90%+ of the population never ever go there) so it's not quite perfect there.

The graphics take some beating tbh, assuming you have the machine to run them at max.

Gandelf wrote:I think LotRO is now the standard by which all mmorpgs should be measured. It's got the best of everything and so many innovations that I wanted for DAoC, but never happened. The only whine I have about LotRO is that after level 20, most of the quests require a group (or that's how it seems). There should be more solo quests for those who don't want to group. But I love everything else about it. There is no real grind (not like DAoC used to be) and although at first, money is hard to earn, from about level 20, it starts to accumulate very nicely. Glad that I had the foresight to buy lifetime subs.

They are adding more solo quests in the first update, which is scheduled soon.

There is plenty of grind, it's just hidden a bit better than most games, but once you see it for what it is...

So PvP is utter shit in LotR online in other words...

Got any decent screenshots of the game? Even the ones on the official site show off a relatively low poly game, with some horribly dated foliage and tree rendering methods coupled with a severe lack of modern rendering techniques such as parallax or even normal mapping. Doesn't even look like they've managed to implement a decent shoreline technique.

85% of LotRo players who voted were opposed even to the limited form of PvP which currently exists, & more is fortunately precluded by the license agreement with the Tolkeins heirs.

Imagine that, a game that only attracts PvErs voting against PvP.

Point being Gandelf seems to be under the illusion LotR online is some uber-MMOG that is going to pull in millions of players like WoW, but the fact is it's lacking a major feature that attracts a large portion of the MMO playerbase, and hence will never be a particularly large population MMO.

No. It just doesn't cater to the kiddies with a testosterone imbalance, or who are so insecure about the size of their virtual d*ck that they constantly feel the need to feed their E-Peen by wanting to kill other players. The player base which LotRo attracts are 30+ IRL & have long since matured out of that phase. & when I say it doesn't cater to them, what I really mean is, it doesn't want tham at all, to such an extent that the boards actively discourage anyone with a desire for PvP from even thinking about buying the game.

It's a game which is about relaxed fun, not about whacking someone round the head with your virtual 5 inches & then screaming "POOPIEPOOPIEPOOPIEPOOPIEPOO!!!1!!one!"
