Having Eu servers hosted by a third-party still doesn't work.

Patches are behind the US servers, although only a few weeks, it's still annoying.

Problems on the Eu servers seems to drag on because the Hosts are not the developers.

The Codemasters - Turbine relationship seems much better than the Goa - Mythic relationship was, but it is still far from seamless.

The game is nice enough, probably my favourite MMORPG at the moment, but it isn't different enough for me to justify the cost and put up with the service issues mentioned above.

So seems like any game will have the problems we had with daoc if not hosted by main people.
Pity really :(

Wait a couple of months and try again imo - if people quit now (which is possible) then they *may* get their act together :)

We're on the same patch as the US as of today.
and...
Todays downtime was supposed to be from 09:00 to 14:00
but in reality it was from 09:15 to 14:05
OMG OMG FFS!
:p

not played it but it reaffirms my belief that with the arrival of WAR Ill play on US servers as opposed to playing on a 3rd party host. Ill take my chances with connection to the US over dealing with a 3rd party again.

Thanks for stating your reasons Ovi. good to know for future reference.

Yea today we are on the same patch that US were 2 weeks ago, the fact that they are different but fairly close also causes quite a bit of confusion as to which patch is actually live.

Makes a change for the downtime to be close to their estimate, since usually the log-in servers break when they bring the servers back online! An issue which the US servers haven't experienced, more than likely because the developers had more experience of Turbines Billing system than Codemaster's system.

It is clearly noticeable that service from 3rd parties plainly isn't as good as being supported by the developer themselves, for what I think are fairly obvious reasons.

It isn't just the actual service either, it is also the perceieved service, for example access to the new Turbine database that requires a Turbine forum account to log into, which in turn requires a live Turbine account! There are already a lot of comments on the Eu forum that US players are having a greater input to the Devs, exactly the situation we ended up with daoc.

I honestly don't think that Codemasters are providing bad service I just see potential for issues to arise, just like the Prydwen database issue, where communication lets down that service.

It isn't a huge issue and if I really enjoyed the game I would probably live with it, however it was the final straw in me deciding that lotro isn't the game for me.
