Ye the beta has been closed for some major updates. Reopens in a few weeks, and the guild beta starts sometime after Chrismas.

Any info about subscription? Most importantly, will there be a lifetime subs, as that's the only type I'd consider?

I believe lifetime subs was something talked about very early on, and simply thrown out by Mark Jacobs as VERY unlikely. Its quite impractical really. How the hell do you define 'lifetime'? And what the hell would you charge for it? Simple no way to know, for either the hoster or the customer, if such a price would be fair and/or buisness sound.

I'm sure it'll probably end up around wow price, maybe a touch more. Who knows. So long as its a bloody good game worth the hours of play then I'll be quite happy to pay it.

Lifetime subs would act as a disincentive to actually update the game. They might make the company more money than normal subs, but only if people over-estimate how long they will play for. They could allow you recover say 25% of the sub if you decide to end it within 2 years to help with that effect.

Another option is that you get a lifetime sub for the basic game but not any add-ons. However, I don't think the public would trust a company not to make expansion classes overpowered.
