Came across this site tonight. I thought it was a very clever idea and a good way of getting the message across to smokers...

hmm thats abit off really..
i agree with the ban as a non-smoker as i personally dont want to breathe cigarette smoke 2nd hand - even if it wasnt dangerous i still wouldnt want too
But putting that on the top of where people smoke...
pretty bad :/

I agree that some smokers should show some respect to ppl that dont smoke but if they get crap like that thrown to them every time they will just say: fuck it.

Yeah but the problem is it does effect other people, even if you smoke outside and even when you can't really smell it you can still be breathing in some of the fumes.Satyn wrote:starting to get seriously sick of all that crap. Yeah i smoke, yeah i know it can kill me but its my business and i dont need anyone else to tell me what i can or cant do.
But got to admit its a cool idea.
hunny ... i appreciate what you are saying but i think there is more harmfull stuff in the air than cigarette smoke.Xest wrote:Yeah but the problem is it does effect other people, even if you smoke outside and even when you can't really smell it you can still be breathing in some of the fumes.

True - but that doesnt really change alot does it? It's still there. If you don't need to inhale it at all - atleast you reduce the poluted air abit. Else you could always defend car fumes by saying that there are other stuff in the air from factories anyway.Satyn wrote:hunny ... i appreciate what you are saying but i think there is more harmfull stuff in the air than cigarette smoke.
Edit: Surely it's gotta be better to reduce the toxic air rather than add more to it Ellen?

There's on average around 4000 chemicals in cigarette smoke of which 69 are cancer causing. The smoke that smokers inhale is filtered through the cigarette whereas second hand smoke isn't, so smoking is potentially more problematic for those of us who breathe the second hand smoke than the smokers themselves, however unless you're around someone every time they smoke, smokers are more likely to fall ill simply because although the smoke they inhale is less harmful, inhale more of it. It is therefore much more dangerous than most other things, again the biggest issue is the amount of cancer causing chemicals as these aren't floating around naturally and only small amounts are needed to cause cancer. It's essentially a chance game with cancer and frankly, the lower your chance of getting it the better - you could smoke for your whole life and not get it or you could get it tomorrow, either way breathing in cigarette smoke greatly increases that chance. How about some consideration for all the people who have had cancer as a result of passive smoking despite never touching a cigarette themselves rather than consideration for the smokers getting nagged at?Satyn wrote:hunny ... i appreciate what you are saying but i think there is more harmfull stuff in the air than cigarette smoke.
What's sad in the UK is the amount of women who smoke to stay slim, not realising that it also causes horrible skin in the long run as it slows cell regrowth and such. Furthermore it increases the risk of a stroke as it can clot the blood. I'd personally rather stay slim through exercise and not end up with bad skin and in a wheelchair when I get older!
Just touching on what Xest was saying... anyone else seen the latest adverts in the UK, that actually confirm that there are more toxins in unfiltered cigarette smoke? The adverts use clever graphics to show that most of the harmful stuff is invisible and that merely trying to blow smoke away from non-smokers is ineffective. The graphics show the deadly invisible fumes coming out of the lit end of the cigarettes, which are then inhaled by everyone in the area, whether they smoke themselves or not.
