Odd...I think I saw this url on nforce.nl some days ago for the first time - and now here.

Pretty silly site btw. Who cares about other peoples fortune?

I saw it on usenet. There was a discussion that the upper classes in the 1700-1800's were less well off them we are, but they were very wealthy relative to the rest of society. The poster was pointing out that actually, people in the first world are actually more wealthy in absolute terms and in relative terms (if you include the entire world).

Its the world, not England :). The point was that even "poor" people in first world countries are rolling in it.

Yeah, when I go to 3rd world nations like the US and Canada it's like a giant half price sale with around $2 to £1, would suck living in one of those poor countries ;)

And pure income shows what exactly when it's not compared to cost & other local factors?

Statistics always show Switzerland as one of the absolutely richest countries in the world. The fact that the vast majority of people living there live in tiny cramped (hugely expensive) rented flats & have access to a washing-maschine which they share with 15 other families in the same block & can use once every 2 weeks never seems to get taken into consideration... for instance...

I think the point is that with your wage you could buy 50,000 goats in Afghanistan but a local tribesman may only be able to afford one plus an AK-47.

See it would be very hard for me to get hold of an AK-47 in Switzerland =/

So the definition of a rich society is one where the poor are no longer able to get hold of the tools required to rid society of the senselessly rich & claim their posessions for themselves?
