happy haloween, happy all saints... memorial for the London Bombings

Post by Takitothemacs »

Whilst the Halloween and all saints’ days might be on us, I find myself thinking about our mortality and that of our loved ones.

We are but fragile beings suffering our own existence. Day by day our time goes forth never knowing where the next step will lead. For 52 human beings their last steps onto a bus or tube on the 7th July 2005 was to be their last. Regardless of race colour or creed they boarded the train blissfully ignorant of the fact that they had just made the final step closer to their own murder. None were to know the carnage, the heartache the pain and the loss that was to follow in the months after that date.

Not only am I thinking of the fatal victims of the atrocities that took place that day but the victims that survived, the ones that have had to live day by day, expected to get back to their "everyday lives" as if nothing had happened. It was they who were going about their supposed everyday lives when their comprehension of what an everyday life was, was shattered.

Today in London there is a memorial for the victims and families of the London bombings and while I am not in attendance it has raised the matter to my thoughts again as on that fateful day I had been forced to take an earlier train as I had an early appointment, if it wasn’t for that I would have been on the Edgware Road train, a fact that haunts me daily... I still have not had the courage to travel through that station since that day. Today we remember the victims... not only those who were caught up directly but every person in the civilized world who abhors such events and their perpetrators...

While we feel for those that suffer at the hands of mother nature who can be cruel and devastating... there is nothing more devastating than the malicious nature of human hatred and I for one hope that one day there will be a time when we can all learn to live with each others differences.

Not sure the reason for the thread... just wanted to share/outpour I guess.
