Car insurance if so silly. People fought for equality and yet insurance for a 17 year old guy on a £200 car is £2400. It seems stupid.
Why? Beause theres a vast number of chavs who like to drive fast and crash their cars, why are the rest of the normal people punished for this? I could be just as safe a driver as a 40 year old and yet im punished for OTHERS bad doings...
Car Insurance
The cost to sort out the bad drivers from the good is to high.Cyfr wrote:Car insurance if so silly. People fought for equality and yet insurance for a 17 year old guy on a £200 car is £2400. It seems stupid.

There is a company in Ireland who runs a driving test. If you do the test and then get insurance from them, you can save up to 50% ( they claim ).
Other options would be adding a GPS black box to your car. If you break the speed limit, you get an increase to your premium. This could also look at things like, do you drive like a race driver (high accelerations from traffic lights etc and fast braking and high(ish) G turns)
They add a breathalyser to the black box ... hmm not sure how they can prove that you are actually blowing into it. Maybe instead, it does a quick blood test + finger print check (to make sure it is your finger) to confirm that you haven't been drinking.
Medical problems ... if you had to do a physical to make sure you haven't any medical problems that would affect your driving, then this would also reduce your premium.
So, what is needed is some way to either continuously check people's driving so they drive safely or separate the good drivers from the bad. Are you willing to be tested ... or do you just want cheap insurance ?
Now, in addition to the above, there is the problem that young drivers don't shop around for insurance as much as they should and even if you do, other young people don't. However, if everyone shopped around, then the prices would drop too.

Solution get parents to insure car and put you on as a named driver.
Cost = much cheapness
Downside = u don't collect no claims bonus cos ur not actually policy owner.
If you do take out your own policy it can often be cheaper if u name someone with good no claims as a named driver, they might not ever drive the car but it can bring the cost down a tad. i put my mums name on my policy and it reduced it by £60 \o/

my 1st car was techncially owned by my dad, same for the insurance so it was pretty cheap
tbh i understand insurance companies, they set up fees from common sense and experience.
ppl of some age are less mature and more prompt for silly temptations, like showing off to a girl, friends or whatever.
not a flame, but Cyfr, just an example how Xest easily winds you up shows also an age syndrome
it's basically the same with young and cars imo, they think they got 3 lives like in a video game.
i'd agree partly with Quin and give tricycles to all under 25
too many young ppl and their victims die every year in car accidents.
