There is some common sense in America after all, celebrities CAN go to jail in circumstances where anyone else would have. Kudos to the judge, give him a medal.

Presumably, she can appeal it ? I mean if you have enough money, eventually you will hit a favorable judge.

Actually, reading the link, she signed a form saying she wasn't allowed to drive and then was caught the next day driving ... that might be hard for even the best attorney to argue out of.

More likely to argue the fact that the jail sentence is a bit harsh.

Not sure about US cases but I bet in the UK most people who drive while disqualified don't end up with a 45 day jail term - crikey people who are guilty of death by dangerous driving get less than that.

She made a mistake and now she have to pay for it. I don't feel sorry for her, but I don't feel happy about this either.

One of thos black female rappers (forgot her name) went to jail aswell for giving a false statement about a shooting in a club.
This only shows that celebraties arent above the law.

But she appealed so i seriously doubt she's gona have to do the 45 days.

The danger of prison is generally one of the things I'd tend to think about before comitting an illegal act in the US personally :p That said, I doubt they'd stick her in general population, I bet she'll get specialist treatment anyway, I'm sure the last thing that the US prison service wants is the death/injury/disfigurement of Paris Hilton on their hands.

well
maybe the judges were harsh
but i think i would have given the same sentence
clearly she doesnt give a damn about the law so she should be made to care about it..

Didn't Naomi Cambell recently get community service for beating up her maid ?

So jail for driving while disqualified and community service for beating someone up. Hhhmmm nice balance there.

I'd say the real problem there is not that Paris' sentence was overly harsh, but the fact that Naomi Cambell's case is a typical example of celebrities getting away with things that others normally wouldn't to be honest. That's why, when things like this happen with Paris Hilton it's nice to see that at least some judges still have some integrity.

It's probably worth noting that Paris wasn't sentenced simply for driving whilst disqualified, but for speeding whilst disqualified after being disqualified for drink driving, and signing a notice admitting to this charge and accepting that she was no longer allowed to drive after the first incident. She has shown that she has no regard for the law, and no respect for the legal documents she put her name to and I'd say that's why she's received the sentence she has. I think if she had just been driving sensibly whilst disqualified she'd probably not have gone to jail but received a much less harsh sentence, I think however it's the combination of things that pushed her sentence over the edge into jail time - the fact that she was not only driving when disqualified, but further breaking the law by still driving dangerously.
