Many felt he was just the lesser of two evils, and many will also agree that a 2 person election isn't really much of a democracy anyway.

Again, politics is just far too vast and different a subject to compare to choosing forum mods.
Well, they had a third option, but who's counting. ;)

Fact remains though, that through electing the mods, they will in fact get more power because their job can depend on the approval of the majority of the people, which makes it more legitime than the way they are appointed now, through the way of backroom-politics (direct translation of the earlier mentioned Dutch word :p)

There is a big difference between discussing and to disagree compared to whine.

Personally I think 99% of the time the modding is fine here (=very good/totally satisfactory), which is why I voted for option FOUR (4) - light modding including language. This is basically what we currently have 99% of the time (IMHO).

The other 1% of the time people get too hung up on options 1 or 2, although I've always seen that it is possible to discuss situations with our mods like adult human beings should be able to do & they have always responded in a manner which I would describe as reasonable, friendly & adult (assuming I was behaving in a similar way :p). In fact, I think they go out of their way to do so.

COC ?
I breezed through it once in roughly 2.3 seconds.
I have almost no clue what is in it.
I suspect the same is also true for most posters ... even if they only read it through 10 minutes ago.
It goes in one eye & out the other.
Fine as a rough guideline but useless as a <insert religious document here>.

I don't think democracy is always the best option. The problem is the candidates do not campaign on their ability to do the job and people do not vote on it either. So you end up with people being elected for irrelevant qualities and being rubbish.

A person put into place by a benevolent dictator is much better, but it all depends on whether the dictator is motivated by a desire for competency and is a good judge of the candidates. A lot of the time you end up with people just putting their friends or popular people into place.
