Just as a quick piece of info on the rebate, I found this quite interesting (Courtesy of BBC)...
It seems that those who are probably the most punished by our rebate, Germany , Netherlands etc, wouldn't actually benefit as much from the rebate being abolished. The main beneficiaries are France, Spain and Italy. The same countries that gain by far the most from the CAP.
Personally I feel that the rebate isn't fair, however I think it does make
things fairer than if it didn't exist. The fact that some countries have also negotiated a reduced payment towards the rebate means that those left with a bigger payment are those that get much more than their fair share from the CAP.
Overall I agree with the UK government point of view. The rebate should be reviewed, but only if the CAP is reviewed too.
