the ip addy whilst dangerous in itself is not as dangerous as your proper name

you guys do know that there is a site on the internet which lists EVERYONES name and address (for a minor fee - first 1 is free) if you are on the electorial role

/stirs the paranoid fire

Your proper name plus your date of birth can probably locate most people, but people happily post their date of birth on forums, and friends wouldn't hesitate to say something like happy 24th birthday in alliance chat.

i could tell ya something that happened recently to a friends daughter - not on the internet - irl - but that would spook ya to much

I doubt its worse than the story I could tell, but I suggest we don't give each other nightmares <grins>

Oh and I have opted out of the Edited Electoral Register, so I'm only on the full Register which people only have access to if they are listed in the Representation of the People (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2002.

For that matter, the name I use in real life is not the name on my birth certificate.

I haven't legally changed it, I just hate my real first name so I use my grandmothers. Probably most people wouldn't realise it isn't my legal name.

funnily enough the name i give to people isn't the name on my birth certificate either, mainly cos I don;t like my real firstname. With my surname people could find me really easily cos its a very unusual one.

And yes, i guess a lot of us have horror stories of people we come into contact with on the net :mojo:

tbh i'm intrested in the story cos it might get me to be more carefull and maybe it could help other ppl out aswell if they see what ppl can do these days.
