Thanks for the info guys. Definitely leaning towards an XPs, just need to save up for it now :p

FRom what I've read this model came out 6 months ago...how often does Dell bring out new models? Would it be worth wating a month or so longer to see if they bring a new one out?

or the UK models:

Alienware tend to update their models much more frequently if that's what bothers you and they have been in the gaming laptop market longer than Dell so it's certainly worth looking into. I haven't done a price/spec comparison between the XPS and the Alienware offerings though so if anything, that's probably the best bet in deciding which you prefer.

they dont update that often for gaming machines. they just up the spec rather than release new models, the xps seems to be a big leap and it came maybe 12-16 months after they released the inspiron 9100 before the 9100 the 8200 was ruling the roost for 2 years maybe? if you buy top end dell they seem to bee v capable for up to 3 years then you might want to upgrade completely, but you will prolly start thinking about ram upgrades after 18 months.

High end Alienware were a better spec than the Inspiron but they cost a lot more money. I think the xps was a stab at Alienwares coole image. The xps is the first Dell lappy actually sold as a gaming lappy, they sold the inspirons as desktop replacements but they knew gamers were buying them IMO and the XPS is a direct play at the mobile gamer, lets face it, it's way to sexy for normal people ;)
look, no hands!
