Well seems to me either the stuff is useless or they would have banned it/it would have been more widely known. That's the part I'm still trying to figure out.

It is useless, it can get you high apparently but u have to smoke so much that most people are unwilling

When in Australia a spoke to a few shop owners selling legal highs in tablet form, most of these are in the process of getting banned but the govenrment seem to be slow at passing legislation or whatever, so there is a window of oppertunity to make some sales, i cant vouch for them but i heard good arguments and what i thoght was quite well informed and honest opinions.

its like going and smoking a stinging nettle or something. plants cant be illegal. its why i dont understand that cannabis isnt 'legal'

It isn't legal mainly because the Mormon Church in Utah did not approve of it (because members of the church had been using it during visits to Mexico). As the state of Utah automatically applied Mormon doctrine into law, Utah passed the world's first anti-cannabis legislation in 1915. Other states soon followed and with the help of newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst and several tobacco companies, it was passed in the Senate as a federal law. W.R. Hearst supported the campaign as the drug was mostly associated with Mexico at the time (at least in the US) and he absolutely hated Mexicans as he'd had a good deal of his personal land seized by Pancho Villa.

Interestingly the first ever American law regarding cannabis was an order to grow it as a required crop. All farmers in Jamestown, Virginia were required to grow Indian Hempseed in 1619. You could be jailed for not growing it and could even use it to pay taxes with.
