Amsterdam - hotel request

im looking for a nice hotel in amsterdam to go for the weekend of the new year.

i want to go for the tulips as theyre my favorite flower but i know they will not be out at that time.
I dont want to be in the middle of the red light district either.
But i dont want to be away from the action.
it is new years ever i want to celebrate

Anyone recomend anything?

good bed, good food, nice ppl and not far from the action

But its next to a park and i suggest you dont go there when its dark cos it has a bit of a reputation.

Don't go to the Grand Hotel Krasnopolski whatever you do.
It's supposed to be the best 5-Star hotel in Amsterdam so you really pay through the nose, but when I was there the sheets obviously hadn't been changed since the previous occupant & had holes in, the bedspread had bloodstains & other less easily identifiable stains, & it must have been at least a year since anyone had hoovered under the bed. Add to that the room stunk of shit & the service was lousy... Fortunately I didn't have much time to sleep last time I was in Amsterdam on business

& when I did try to sleep it was almost impossible due to noise from outside even with the windows closed (which makes one wonder about the quality of Dutch double-glazing especially considering it was in a newly renovated wing

) & the air-conditioning made constant noises like a medieval torture chamber... =/

I've slept in a lot of 1-3 star hotels in Germany, Italy & Greece & TBH they ALL beat the Grand Hotel Krasnopolski in Amsterdam hands down in terms of quietness, cleanliness, comfort & service. I don't know how much they had to pay in bribes for their 5 stars but... just don't go there if you can possibly avoid it...
